At the end of last year the wonderful @Fotofilmic organized a photography workshop in Thailand with the legendary @gregforaday . The excitement to be guided by Greg superseded the trepidation of being in an unfamiliar country, and without thinking too hard about it I found myself in the middle of a Bangkok juice shop with nothing more than my camera. Over the following ten days I had my perception broken down and reformed, changing my practices, not only by Greg’s insightful critique but by the outstanding work and personalities of my classmates. I was drunk with intense friendships, the unfamiliar, the beauty of Thailand, the hospitality of its people, an expanded mind, and too much alcohol. It’s taken me months to work off that hangover; the eye-opening lessons I learned from Greg, and the memories I made with everyone there.

Thank you Greg for sharing your work and philosophies, for your storytelling, your spot-on critique, your advice, and your generosity. I’m not sure I can describe how much I appreciate it. Thank you to Virginie and Bastien of fotofilmic for being delightfully welcoming and for organizing the trip. And thank you to my fellow photographers for being kind, fun, beautiful, inspiring artists — I miss you guys.

My photos featured here were Greg’s selects for the magazine, taken mostly during my lonely walks around Bangkok. My next post will feature the selects from Chiangmai. I’m not sure who took the last photo which features the workshop’s participants (sorry!).
