I still think about the airport. We had hours there, and I remember how you didn’t leave my side the whole time. When it finally came time to go and we hugged and kissed goodbye, you were crying so hard I could barely stand it. I’ve never seen anyone love someone that openly. I didn’t need a bigger sign than that to know how much you care about me. I’ve carried that moment with me ever since, through the long days and the quiet nights when I missed you more than I could say.

You say what you mean, even when it’s hard to hear. I struggle with that. I’ll keep things to myself, turn them over in my head, and never say them. Watching you say things clearly and honestly makes me want to get better at it, and I’m working on it, even if it’s slow. I think that’s one of the reasons I trust you so much.

You also make me laugh when I need it most, especially when I’m being too serious. Those little jokes and the poses you strike, the ones you know are ridiculous and do anyway, get me every time. I love that you don’t care if you look silly. It reminds me to loosen up and enjoy the moment, which I don’t do enough.

I know I can be serious a lot of the time, and I’m grateful you don’t let that scare you off. You bring out the goofy, sweet side of me that I’m not always great at showing.

I’m lucky you picked me. Keep being you, keep saying what’s on your mind, and keep making me laugh. I’ll keep trying to be worth the airport, and I’ll keep showing up for you every day.

I love you
