@mexikodro, in my opinion, is the most important name to come out of the alternative underground trap scene of the mid-2010s. Alongside his producer collective, Beat Pluggz, which included producers like Corey Lingo, Polo Boy Shawty, StoopidXool, A$att, and BeatPluggTwo, he helped pioneer and popularize the plugg sound that would go on to influence an entire generation of underground artists.

Over the years, MexikoDro produced countless underground classics and proved he could thrive in a variety of lanes. From crafting beats for some of the biggest names in the underground to eventually gaining mainstream recognition, he has continued to evolve as an artist. More recently, he's successfully transitioned into his own rap career while still maintaining the sound and style that made him influential in the first place.

Here is a list of my favorite Mexikodro produced tracks (this list is NOT EXHAUSTIVE so don't whine if you don't see a song included):

13 years ago today, Miley Cyrus dropped ‘We Can’t Stop’ 🎉

Released on June 3, 2013 as the lead single for “Bangerz,” the song marked one of the most dramatic image transformations in pop music history. After years as Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana, Miley embraced the party-heavy aesthetic that defined the early 2010s. House parties, Tumblr, gold grills, foam cups, and films like “Project X” had become a huge part of youth culture, and ‘We Can’t Stop’ quickly became one of the defining anthems of that era.

What many people don’t realize is that Black Kray and Kane Grocerys of Goth Money Records both appeared throughout the music video. At the time, Kray was already building a cult following through releases like “700 Dagreez,” years before much of the mainstream would discover his influence on underground rap, fashion, and internet culture.

According to Black Kray, his appearance happened almost completely by chance. In later HAM ON EVERYTHING & Montreality interviews, Kray explained that a woman approached him, told him he was cute, asked for his number, and later reached out asking if he wanted to appear in a Miley Cyrus music video. A few days later, he and Kane Grocerys found themselves partying alongside one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

One of the funniest moments from the shoot was later recalled by a Kane Grocerys moment during the 2017 HAM Radio interview, where Kray revealed that Kane accidentally stepped on Miley Cyrus’ head while filming one of the party scenes 😂 That moment made the final cut and remains one of the most random pieces of Goth Money lore ever captured on camera 😭

Today, the ‘We Can’t Stop’ music video has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube. Looking back, it serves as an unlikely time capsule where underground figures like Black Kray and Kane Grocerys briefly crossed paths with one of pop music’s biggest cultural moments.

Talk about quite the crossover episode!
