I remember coming to my first Potluck session after linking up with @hmltmusic in person, what started as a casual Monday eve writing sesh turned into so much more, and now we’re releasing our 1st album 👀

So glad to be part of this community and grateful to the people I’ve met along the way, being a part of @takesavillagemusic is definitely one of my highlights since I immigrated to Canada at the end of 2023

Pull up tomorrow at the @drakeunderground to see us play this body of work, this is just the start of it 👀 So proud of us 😌

Takes A Village was the first Asian songwriting community I ever had.

When I first started spending more time in Toronto, I randomly ran into Harrison at It’s OK* World. He told me I should meet Corey aka HMLT who’s putting something together called Takes A Village.

After that, I spent almost every Monday I wasn’t touring at these sessions. These were my core memory of that summer. Sometimes it would just be me, Corey, Troy, and Sonya, then eventually a packed room, then 2, and now sometimes I don’t even have a place to sit.

These songs from those early sessions are finally out on Takes A Village’s first album POTLUCK VOL. 1. I feel so lucky to be a part of it. I sung on 3 songs on the album, have some random parts in places, and am reduced to a Sonya voice tag “That’s Merv Baby” 😂

We’re playing the entire album at the release party tomorrow at the Drake. Come sing shalalalalalalala 🧧🧧🧧
