Sounds from AOG Group conference 2025: Day 1

The conference was themed “Listen”.
A quote that pulled on my heart strings on this day was,

“Listening is at the heart of our friendship with God”. - Ps Byron Chicken

He further said, “To love well, we need to listen well”.

Some thoughts on listening…
——————————————————————————
In a time where so many are crying out to be heard, let us be the few who listen well. And in our listening, may we point them to the one who has made it possible for us to choose the way of listening above being heard.
——————————————————————————

As we learn to listen to God, we learn how much of our needs He has already heard. More than what we could ever communicate, or know how to articulate, He has heard. It is in our listening that we truly learn just how deeply God hears us.
——————————————————————————
Removing the longing to be heard which drives our interactions with others. At times pulling us towards people hoping they would hear us, or further away from them fearing that they won’t. Neither push nor pull affects us anymore, when we find solace in Him who hears us even when we’re not speaking.
——————————————————————————
Over time, this act of listening and being heard by Him, becomes the empowerment we need to hear those longing to be heard. But in our listening, ours is to help point them to listen not to us, but to Him who hears all.

It is the people you meet on a Sunday to do life with Monday to Saturday.

I thank God for His Body, I’m grateful for how He reveals more of Himself into us through His body. That this is the gospel at work, how we get to be vessels of our maker. Instruments of His worship. Temples of His presence.

There is so much more of Him that we get to see and know, when we open ourselves up to knowing and loving His Church.

God’s aim in human history is the creation of an inclusive community of loving persons, with himself included as its primary sustainer and most glorious inhabitant.

- Dallas Willard

—————————————————————————-
I’m grateful for her, this community.
This forming body and becoming bride.
This growing vineyard, and temple in construction.

I’m grateful for her in her process of perfection.
Her being washed by the Word of her maker and saviour.
I’m grateful that her imperfect now while being perfected, makes room for me to believe and belong while I too am becoming.

I grateful how her present, which welcomes me into eternal oneness with her and Him who came not just to save but to unite. If I met her in her perfection I would have no room in her and so too in Him. I’m grateful that now, in the prickly present, I was planted in this garden. And stayed long enough, to look beyond the thorns and see the rose that rests upon them.

Wherever you are in your walk with God and His body, I pray that you may see more of Gods beauty rested on the garden that is His Church.
