POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In February 2026, after the US Forest Service waived environmental review.
a mining company came to drill for graphite near Pe’ Sla—the prairie the Lakota call the heart of everything that is.

Nine Tribes and groups sued and occupied the drill pads. By early May, the company had withdrawn permanently.

Graphite is marketed as a clean-energy mineral. But Siċaƞġu Lak̇ot̄a poet and activist Robert Harold Bordeaux offers another climate framework: Land Back as a restored relationship.

When land is understood as a relative rather than property, resistance is not only about stopping extraction. It is about changing the decisions people believe they have the right to make.

Late evening thoughts on this Micronauts?

For awhile I've been thinking about creating a mycological/Forager’s association for our very own Rosebud Reservation!. We currently have 2 atm but they are both located on either side of our state, one east River and one west but unfortunately both are well over 250+ miles
away.

Alot of our people can't afford to travel either places let alone have any local native knowledge of our traditional plants/fungi. The native owned small group will have foraging days and plant education within the local riparian areas of our beautiful rolling hills.

We can have local elders and plant enthusiasts host a few hours of thier own choice of edibles for people to attend and learn together. If anyone thinks or would love this type of group please share or comment below and we can definitely start looking.

Rockwise Strategies is grateful to share our involvement in Sicangu Co Keya Wakpala project with Patrick Schei, as Owner’s Representative. Located within the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Reservation, the Keya Wakpala site encompasses approximately 590+ acres and is planned as a multi-phase development integrating housing, community, commerce, culture, and ecological stewardship. Upon completion the development will feature:

       · Residential neighborhoods and individual homesites

       · Community gardens and food-growing areas

       · Multi-use gathering and ceremonial spaces

       · Community, cultural, and institutional buildings

       · Commercial and retail uses

       · Integrated infrastructure, utilities, and site amenities

We are humbled to be involved in the journey that is taking place, bringing fresh community spaces that nourishes and reflects the Sicangu spirit, culture, and way of life.

During our regular work hours, beyond farming and cultivation, we carry our growing knowledge and techniques with us wherever we go. Last year, our business and the school had the opportunity to receive two hydroponic tower systems from AeroGarden—and we were fortunate enough to win them.

We also restored a third hydroponic rack, rebuilding it with new wiring and piping after the original components were damaged by mice and weather. It is now fully operational alongside the other two systems at our school, helping us grow fresh, high-quality lettuce to serve our students every day.#fyp #forest #nativetiktok #outdoors #selfsufficient

I still don’t know how I deserved to experience this.

And I still have a lump in my throat.
Especially now, watching this video again.

A full year is coming to an end, but one moment stays with me more than anything else:
my visit to the Wolakota Buffalo Range, operated by the Sicangu Co Lakota Oyate, and the time spent with Craig Valandra and Jesse Kline. @jesse.kline

When I was in the U.S. this year, I wanted to visit a regenerative buffalo operation.

We work with Wild Idea Buffalo, whose hides are turned into Olivenleder® for Patagonia work boots, but timing didn’t allow a visit there.
Instead, fate led me to Wolakota.

Before sharing this video, I sent it to Craig for approval.
He wrote back telling me that the U.S. government had shut down SNAP benefits across the country, directly affecting many families on the reservation. Thanks to the buffalo harvest, they were able to feed their Oyate with around 20 tons of Tatanka. I read deep gratitude in his words – even though, as he says in the video, harvesting the buffalo is the hardest part of his duty.

At first, the video included a scene showing the freshly harvested buffalo heads.
Craig asked me to remove it, out of respect for his relatives.
That alone says more about values, dignity, and connection than many sustainability reports ever could.

I thought I had a strong understanding of sustainability.
Of leather.
Of regenerative systems.
Standing there, I realised how small my bubble still was.

The bar they set is incredibly high.
And maybe that’s exactly the point.
Because if we don’t set the measure at the deepest possible connection between people, animals, and land – even if it feels unreachable – we won’t truly move forward.

We might get better marketing.
But we won’t heal anything.

I’m deeply grateful for this experience.

Filmed by @manuelgussmann Manuel Gussmann – thank you, as always, for the calm eye and sensitivity behind the camera.
We chose to film very quietly, almost in the background, because this moment was meant to be lived first.
