I really have not got things right these past few months. I’m taking a step back to re evaluate and come back next year with a fresh mind and body. @grandraidreunion thank you for having me, your island is stunning and I look forward to coming back in the coming years

Everyday is a school day.

Today’s training was on custom insoles from @sidasuk

When having a custom ski boot an insole is the perfect way to finish the fit.

They are also great for improving the fit of old ski boots that are not feeling quite right

Pop in to the store and see if they are right for you

Trying another start line next week. @grandraidreunion, a race I have wanted to do for a little while. It’s meant to be technical, there’s no poles and there’s some good competition, sounds like a good day out. Hopefully some of my training comes to fruition on the day. I’m out here now on Reunion Island and I’m taking the taper very seriously. See you on the other side!

MATCHPOINT #39 KENDAL OPEN - TOP PLAYER

Player of the Event
Will Salter

Will came into the tournament as the 2 seed in the A event and cruised through the early rounds in impressive style to set up a final with Patrick Rooney.

Salter was the underdog in the final, almost 100 spots lower in the world rankings than Rooney, but he put in a gutsy performance to win 13-11 in the 3rd and preserve his 100% winning record in MatchPoint events!

MATCHPOINT #39 KENDAL OPEN - RESULTS

It was a rainy day in Cumbria, but that didn't dampen the mood in Kendal, as the club was packed to the rafters for their first-ever MatchPoint event!

The A event was full of top-class talent, but the final was contested by the likely 2 of Patrick Rooney and Will Salter, who put on a display of the highest level that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats until the very end. Rooney took the opening game 11- 4, showing off his accuracy and shot-making prowess, but Salter upped the pace during the 2nd game to level it at 1-1. In the 3rd and final game, Salter continued his dominance in the early stages, but Rooney clawed his way back to 10-10 after some awe-inspiring rallies; however, Salter's pure desire, determination and relentless recoveries proved too much in the end, helping him to his 3rd MatchPoint title!

The C event final was an all-Kendal affair, with Mark Jackson taking bragging rights with a 2-1 win over teammate Nathan Turner. In the D event, we had a repeat of the Jersey Open D event final from a week ago, where Kyle Chatterley converted to do the double over Adam Smith!

Huge thanks to Kendal Squash & Racketball Club for hosting, and to fantastic sponsors Sidas for making the event as successful as it was!

Check the MatchPoint Sport app for the full results.

The 2nd problem that nearly caused me to DNF was an extremely sore vastus medialis muscle (Part of the quad)

I’m not quite sure how it happened but I remember coming in to a checkpoint and sitting down and having some food with “the x2 James’s” James Leavesley & @jambonjiva for about 20mins and then upon leaving that CP we set off nice and slow down a concrete ramp that was pretty steep and lasted for a good 10-20mins.

There was no sudden pain but shortly after this descent the pain in my quad just got worse and worse to the point where I couldn’t run downhill.

After about 12 hrs It was that sore and inflamed that my quad had become very swollen above the knee and it was extremely painful to come downhill on.

So this issue combined with how I was already feeling had turned the whole thing into a misery fest. I really wanted to quit but every time I tried, I just couldn’t do it. So I trudged on to life base 2 (Eisten) really not enjoying it!

Strangely enough as I exited Lifebase 2 after sitting down for a few hours the pain had subsided and I was able to shuffle downhill again ! Happy days!!

I was still in a low mood but was starting to snap out of it as I came to a realisation that the mood was more of an induced state now and not an actual thing! So I was able to snap out 🙌🏻

My energy levels were better, I could shuffle downhill again and I didn’t feel empty or ill so I began chipping away again.

I’d accepted that I might not able to race it like I wanted too, but I was far from needing to retire. I was here now - so I may aswell make the most of it and just finish 🙌🏻

I was almost beginning to enjoy myself - but It was short lived and on the approach to lifebase 3 on the descent off col de forclettaz my quad flared up again. So it was a very slow and painful shuffle into Grimentz ….
