Please join the 3rd Annual Ride for Your Life on Sunday, Oct 25th.

Traffic violence continues to claim innocent lives across our Commonwealth. Join advocates, families, and neighbors as we ride to honor those lost, including Louisa Gag, Thomas Rose, and many others. Together, we will continue to push for urgent statewide policy reforms like stronger truck-safety standards and speed-camera authorization.

Approaching my fourth year as the Dev and Comm Manager for WalkMass, I constantly bring myself back to this moment from the Day of Remembrance last year: our two incredible program managers writing some of the most important words on the ground, a very cold breeze, and a reminder of why we do this work every day.

Today is the first day of Pedestrian Safety Month, a Week Without Driving, and a month away from beat the Bay state. I am so looking forward to sharing all this month with our followers. People are still dying on our streets. The loss of advocates like Louisa Gag and Prof. Thomas Rose shows we must keep fighting at every level.

What we’re demanding:

State: Pass speed-camera & truck-safety laws.
New Bill: “Stop Super Speeders” bill for GPS speed limiters.

City: Boston must accelerate street-safety commitments.

Federal: Defend threatened cycling & pedestrian funding.

Sidney’s Rainbow Day always brings our Andover community together.

Sidney’s parents, Mary Beth Ellis and Eric Olson, and their organization have done so much to enrich our town, from safety measures for walkers and vehicles to fun family events.

The Freedom to Move a Mile and Party with a Purpose are perfect examples of how they channel Sidney’s bright and creative spirit to make our community safer, more fun, and welcoming for everyone!

Today would have been Sidney Mae Olson's 9th birthday. On Saturday,
@sidneys_rainbows is holding its annual Rainbow Day Party in Andover's Central Park from 9:00 until 1:00, and we hope you will join us there. Stop by our table for some glitter freckles, rainbow tattoos, and, of course, lots of pink candy! 🌈

My sweet baby Sidney - you should be turning 9 today. It is the fourth birthday you have missed on earth and this one is the hardest.

No more shock, no more magical thinking that you might come home, no more belief that you will get justice. Just the cold hard stone of truth sinking in my gut - you’re gone forever and you should be here with us.

There are so many public health crisis we can’t fix but traffic violence is one of the few we can. But we need more than just those of us who have lost a loved one to care and fight.

A $50 mirror or a driver who followed our traffic laws and took a moment to look for pedestrians would have saved Sidney. An easy fix and she’s here blowing out the candles her 9th birthday cake.

Every traffic death comes down to easy fix - the technology exists, the solutions are simple, but we need you. Get involved locally, elect officials who care, drive like it’s your child in the crosswalk or biking beside you, join us for the Freedom to Move Mile and Rainbow Day, little steps forward so our kids don’t have to fear for their life walking to art class.
