When the Sari Meets Tailoring | Inside The Sari’torial Showcase in Mumbai

On October 8, L’Atelier 1664 (@1664_india )and Abraham & Thakore (@abrahamandthakore ) brought The Sari’torial to the designer label’s Phoenix Palladium (@phoenixpalladium ) store in Mumbai for an exclusive showcase. With designers David Abraham (@davidabraha ) and Rakesh Thakore (@rakeshthakore )in attendance, the gathering brought together fashion and lifestyle media, creators, stylists and the city’s creative community.

First presented at Lakmé Fashion Week in March 2026, The Sari’torial explores the dialogue between the fluidity of the Indian sari and the precision of contemporary tailoring. A play on the word sartorial, the collection reimagines traditional draping through modern silhouettes, bringing stitched and unstitched forms into conversation.

Tailored jackets, shirts and tunics meet layered drapes and wrap constructions, crafted in handwoven textiles, silks and handspun cottons. Hand-block printing, pintucks, pleating and embroidery add texture, while a palette of black and white, punctuated by L’Atelier 1664’s signature blue and accents of red and gold, lends the collection a graphic edge.

Bringing together Abraham & Thakore’s contemporary approach to Indian craftsmanship and L’Atelier 1664’s French-inspired design sensibility, the collaboration presents heritage as an evolving language rather than a fixed tradition, one that continues to find new expression in the modern wardrobe.

Experiencing the collection up close at the Mumbai showcase offered a closer look at its construction and considered details. The designers also shared their personal favourites: David Abraham gravitated towards the sari dress, while Rakesh Thakore chose the trench coat.

A meeting of craft and contemporary expression, The Sari’torial offers a fresh perspective on Indian dressing, where tradition and modernity shape one another.

Fashion takes, hot opinions, and a little bit of drama, it was all happening at the @tresemmeindia x The Devil Wears Prada 2 watch party. From wardrobe essentials to the one haircare product they can’t live without, and the ultimate debate, bad haircut or bad situationship, your favourite faces kept it very real.

Front row at Rahul Mishra’s latest AFEW
showcase @lakmefashionwk × @fdciofficial, and this one felt like stepping into a living ecosystem 🌿

What I loved most? The storytelling.
Cotton wasn’t just fabric here — it was memory, craft, and quiet luxury stitched together. Kerala mundu meets Chanderi, all reimagined in silhouettes that felt both rooted and elevated.

But the real moment for me… the dragonflies - Delicate & intentional
Obsessed is an understatement! I’m really considering getting one tattooed now 🫠
