This is the video for my latest video release, Dancing Still.
It comes from my recently released 1st CD album release of original material, ‘In Other News: Tales Of A 21st Century Griot’.

Making a special guest appearance in the video is the incredible force of nature that is Miss Greta Mendez.
It was a great privilege to have her say ‘yes’ when I asked her to be my ‘promo muse’.
Of course, she steals the show, but special shout out to director / cinematographer / set designer C.J. December (patience, skill, invisible warrior) make-up artist and 2nd camera Gerrard Martin (ubiquity, tranquility, gentility), and DS’s co-writer & producer William South (‘the art of fighting without fighting’).

Actually, as serendipity would have it, this Thursday 28th and Friday 29th October you can catch me providing live rhythmic, atmospheric and song-based accompaniment for Gerrard Martin Dance’s superb new male dance duet, A Journey To Love,

The piece forms part of the mighty Mendez’s magical week-long London-based festival of dance sired, fired and still required in - and by - the black diaspora, A Time To Breathe.
See link below: www.atimetobreathe.co.uk

My song Dancing Still was conjured up, alongside S.E. London Renaissance man William South, during lock-down. It is dedicated to all who work in the creative arts, and all who choose to use their (remaining) time on this planet creating, elevating, celebrating and expediting - rather than breaking, deflating, negating and denying.

It’s also inspired by those elderly - in the wake of initial governmental response to last year’s Covid outbreak in care homes - whose untimely physical and/ or mental diminishment disqualified them from raging against either apparent societal sidelining or, ultimately, the ‘dying of the light’.
I suppose persons such as Greta, William and myself will have to rage on their behalf; in this case, by Dancing Still. Peace.

Hello, good people. For non-Covid related reasons, I've been somewhat... 'covert' for the past year, in respect to both social media, and social engagement (even via phone).
The reason for my scarcity is that - alongside producer, composer and fine musician William South - I've been preparing, writing, and recording my first solo album of original material.
Entitled 'In Other News: Tales Of A 21st Century Griot', it will be released in September / early October, and has much that will register in the hearts and minds of those who've always been aware of where the ground is fair, and with whom - in this 'fairground' - they might share the cold air.
Oh, and because William wrote the music, there are some bangin' tunes. Similarly, because I wrote the lyrics, there are some bloody brilliant bits of broad humour and top-drawer comedy (fear not, good people; for the most part I'm quietly laughing with you).
Anyhoo, another reason for my M.I.A. status was having to conceptualise and make videos, and other promotional footage [you'll notice that I omitted any reference to 'paying' - so, if I suddenly go 'off the grid' again... you'll understand why].
I'm glad to say that I can now start teasing you with... stuff.
More specifically, 'my' stuff.
Keep eyes peeled for gig dates, music releases and similar activities I witnessed being undertaken by musicians, during my musical youth. Let's see if some rules still apply.
Anyway, this is a tease for the 1st release from the album, 'The Answer Is You'; at once, a specific love song (you know who you are, lover), and a love-letter to the diversity of love. Check it out. #21stcenturygriot #originalmusic #blackmaleartist #singersongwriter #answerisyou #diversity #lovesongs #universallove #blackmaninasuit #blackbritishartist #lgbtq @williamsouthmusic @siegeism
