After having sat on this guitar for a couple of years now, I finally wanna treat it to some small upgrades: I never liked the (probably not even stock) pickups all that much, and that goes for the tone and color. So I finally committed to grabbing a lime green set of Bare Knuckle Black Hawks. I tried those a couple of years back and really liked them - and I think their unique, square bobbin + rail design as well as the colorway will go great with this guitar and finish. While we're at it, the weird mismatching chrome pickup rings must go and make way for black ones, which will match the rest of the hardware much better. Finally, a good setup and we're off to the races. I'll probably not even have the Floyd blocked. I'm thinking drop C might be a fun tuning for this one, but we'll see... PS: Today's music choice is @sigilcanada, whose album 'Nether' I put out through @totaldissonanceworship several years ago. It's still one of my absolute favorites to date and I wish the band would have continued. Do yourself a favor and peep the album. #espguitars #metalguitar #pointyguitars #randomstar

~BEST OF MARCH 2024~ (1/2) Believe it or not, I'm mostly following the rules of only adding new artists to the best of list. The collage would be flooded with albums if I also selected ones I've chosen before (@pyrrhon_trash , Gorguts , @homzya , @aphextwinsucks , Madi-san and Dial Up are the biggest examples I can think of). Technically the QIREXX album would be included with this but the album I highlighted was a collaboration with her partner @slippymudman so ehhhhh. I still wanted to include it because that album was some of the most fun I've had listening to mashcore/breakcore/whatever. With that in mind, I want to mention a special shout out to everyone at Kaiden Jackman's Equilibrium. Consider every song I played from that episode as part of the list (if I added all the album covers, it would probably take 3 individual posts to properly tag and credit everyone). This includes: @echthrosnoise , @met__glas , @mythmakingmusic , @basil.leon.99 , @mantismei , @sheepiemcgoaters , @lydia0pineau0 , @jalpinist , Ohso Blondo, @mosstghost , Obelix (who had an excellent song on the Trans Rights comp) , @brad_hawk_skraw , Porous Treatment , @music2joust2 , @the_canadian_dispatch and the person that organized the entire event: @futurebuttons . I play a lot of stuff I like on the show lol. Reminder though that all the stuff I play on my show I like. This is just the best of the best as usual. "Milan, aren't you being a little excessive with tagging people?" Yes, I am. Edit: Removed some names because for some reason, Instagram cuts off the name after a period. Fix your damn site, Zuck! #cjsw #cjsw909fm #collegeradio

(2/2) I told you it would get a lot more experimental. I can only imagine the reaction of anyone on the late night haul having to listen through two massive sets of noise music lol. The two musicians who couldn't be tagged (hopefully I'm not invading their privacy) are @obelix.av and @met__glas , two great noise artists. #cjsw #cjsw909fm If you missed or want to relisten to the episode, you can listen to the show either through the show page or through the CJSW app, available for iPhone and Android! As well, you can subscribe to my show on Spotify, Google Podcasts, and others to ensure you don't miss an episode.

AOTY 2021 // Albums of the Year: 25-23 // 25: Dordeduh - ‘Har’, 24: Sigil - ‘Nether’ and 23: Blackwater Holylight - ‘Silence/Motion’. Dordeduh were firmly on my radar. A band consisting of alumni of Negură Bunget, not least at the time of crafting & recording their classic record, ‘OM’, were always going to pique my interest & beckon my devotion. Their self-titled debut is very good, but I settled down… That said, I still looked forward to what would come next. ‘Har’ blew all my expectations & preconceptions out of the water, though. Yes, like NB, Dordeduh blend sweeping atmospheric black metal together with their native Romanian folk, but this transcends that foundation, delivering a masterclass in dynamics, timbral juxtaposition & precision playing. Aside from real-world personal stuff going on with friends & family, one of the worst things I read last year, having just heard this LP, was the fact that Sigil was on indefinite hiatus immediately following the release of their debut LP. Say it ain’t so, guys! Because these Canadians forged an unholy melting pot of black & death metal, along with the more fiery qualities of post-hardcore. Each of the six full tracks on offer here are journeys through the inferno. The quartet manage to fuse melody with dissonance as if it were mere child’s play. A majestic record that I, for one, really do hope doesn’t prove to be their swansong. On in the background, Blackwater Holylight might sound like like a strange mixtape, veering between someone’s obscure favourite bands in indie, 90s rock, stoner & doom. Perhaps you put down your drink & slide away from inane conversation, as you try to name the bands, because that riff MUST belong to something famous, it’s too good, you’ve surely heard it before. Then you realise it’s one band. And that you haven’t been tuning in & out of tracks, but each had all the facets you noted before. This is Blackwater Holylight. This is ‘Silence/Motion’. Supreme songwriting, supreme musicianship, & STILL, I think, untold potential to come. Immensely impressive. @dordeduhband #dordeduh @sigilcanada #sigil @blackwaterholylight #blackwaterholylight #albumsoftheyear2021 #albumsoftheyear

Loveloth's 2021 List Fiesta. Part XVIII: Black Metal. ------- The soundtrack for the apocalpyse phrase gets tossed around too often in this sphere but some of these records sound like a legit product of it. Insane. _ 10. Sigil - 'Nether' In truth, I could've easily placed this in yesterday's list but this just proves their understanding of both genres. 9. Bríi - 'Sem Propósito' Combining minimal techno with raging atmo black is the latest stroke of Caio Lemos' genius. 8. Voices - 'Breaking The Trauma Bond' Even for their crazy standards, Voices' latest venture is wild but just as harrowing and engrossing. So happy "Petrograph" finally made its way to a full release. 7. Sarke - 'Allsighr' Risking public execution here but for me Sarke is the best thing Nocturno Culto is a part of and I do not say that lightly. Extremely fun record that harkens back to an older era but in a refreshing manner. 6. Dordeduh - 'Har' The fact this sidetracked me from exploring more new releases for a few weeks proves how great it is. 5. Veilburner - 'Lurkers In The Capsule Of The Skull' After half a dozen listens or so I am still far from deciphering this forward-thinking and frankly insane beast. 4. The Ruins Of Beverast - 'The Thule Grimoires' Six record deep and Meilenwald refuses to put the foot of the gas with what's his most consistent work to date. 3. Creature - 'Eloge De l'Ombre' Featuring variety that surpasses most discographies, Fournier's fourth record is monumental achievement further improved by... @baardkolstadofficial's drumming. That explains some things. Adore the rapping parts. 2. Der Weg Einer Freiheit - 'Noktvrn' Few, if any group commands tension and crescendos like the German icons and on 'Noktvrn' they simply reminded us why they're one of the best with what's their most adventurous and concise record to date. 1. Plebeian Grandstand - 'Rien Ne Suffit' Most music is a product of its time. Some of it attempts to capture a previous time period and some rushes forwards with little care for its safety. 'Rien Ne Suffit' falls into that category but in a way that leaves nearly everyone else in the dust. At least five years ahead of its time.
