👋 I’m Dabney Hughes, and I’ll be taking over the Innovate Carolina Instagram today.

I’m a sophomore at UNC majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Consulting at @unckenanflagler, with a minor in Neuroscience—combining how people think with how to solve real-world problems.

Recently, I became a coworking member at the Innovate Carolina Junction, where I have been able to work on my startup and network with like-minded individuals. The innovation hub here at Chapel Hill has been an incredible experience so far.

I work as the Executive Director with Stomp Out Hunger, a food recovery startup focused on reducing food waste and increasing access to nutritious meals. We collect fresh food before it hits the dumpster and partner with local startups like Speedi Delivery and GoodBowls to build tech-enabled systems for food recovery and distribution.

Last November, when SNAP benefits were cut, we donated 1,560 meals to IFC Community Kitchen—supplying 25% of the meals distributed during the crisis.

On campus, I help lead a student consulting trip to Panama through UNC’s International Consulting Club, giving students the opportunity to apply what they’re learning at Kenan-Flagler to real development challenges. This summer, we’re working with a community bank and pharmacy to increase rural access to funding and medicine.

I also run philanthropy for Sigma Chi Fraternity, where we raised $20,000 last semester for the UNC Children’s Research Institute to support research for rare pediatric diseases.

What I love most about Innovate Carolina and Kenan-Flagler is the emphasis on combining strong business fundamentals with real, measurable impact. The community, mentorship, and hands-on learning have shaped how I think about building purpose-driven ventures.

Feel free to ask any questions in the comments about student startups, food recovery, or getting involved at @uncchapelhill 👇

Two legendary fraternities will battle on the gridiron today in an exciting matchup with the Atlanta Falcons vs the New Orleans Saints 🏈

Who’s taking home the win in this Sigma Chi vs PIKE showdown? Representing the Falcons is Significant Sig and VP of Football Operations & Player Personnel Ryan Pace, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1999, Passing Game Coordinator T.J. Yates, NORTH CAROLINA-CHAPEL HILL 2008, and Senior Defensive Assistant Dave Huxtable, EASTERN ILLINOIS 1979. They will square off against Prominent Pike and Saints kicker Blake Grupe (Arkansas State, Delta Theta ‘18).

Cast your vote in the comments to see which brotherhood claims bragging rights! 👇 #PIKEVsSigmaChi #NFLFaceOff #BrotherhoodBattle #whodat #riseup
