What a gorgeous city Portland Oregon is, with a great theatre, and a lot of wonderful theatre folk! I can’t believe I never made it in Powell’s books, but I did see an Ocean Vuong book signing in full throng. Had a blast with my fellow playwrights, stage managers, designers, staff, all the amazing actors, directors, 3 amazing ASL interpreters, and 2 dramaturgs, delivering a play about a dramaturg, dementia, and queer elders. Thanks to all the folks who came: from undergrad with kid, grad school, a sibling, a bestie and consort 😁, a New Dramatist, a work friend who became a friend through listening to the plots of my plays and now crossed the country to see a reading, and Tom- my number one 💜‼️

“Write the vision, make it plain…”
- Habakkuk 2:2

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience to begin my journey on Broadway. Proof was one of the first plays we studied in undergrad, so getting to be a part of the revival has truly been a dream. Forging ahead with many things learned, new people to love and a grateful heart.
“Great work, great experience, moving on.”
Onwards 💙

This is why we JAW!

Playwright Phillip Christian Smith is here to workshop his new play, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, for the JAW New Play Festival! He's spending the week in rehearsal with Director Laurie Woolery, Dramaturg Taylor Barfield, and Actors Thomas Silcott, Val Landrum, Lo Steele, and Jessica Tidd, exploring, discovering, and possibly even re-writing this beautiful story.

You can catch the reading on Sunday, July 26 at 4 PM — and as with all JAW events, it's free and open to the public. Learn more at pcs.org/jaw and come experience some new work this weekend!

Saw @proofbroadway tonight. I had LOTS to say about it that I couldn’t fit everything I wanted to say about it in the caption section here lol. But only good things though! I really ended up liking the play a lot! Anyway, the screenshots of my in depth thoughts and review on Proof is in this post along with some photography shots of the cast during curtain call! Go see Proof now playing at the Booth Theatre until July 19th! 😃

Opening night of @longwharftheatre’s Production of August Wilson’s GEM OF THE OCEAN
📸 @liachangphotography / @backstagepasswithliachang
Long Wharf’s production of August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean opened at the Canal Dock Boathouse in New Haven on March 5, followed by the opening night party at the Hotel Marcel.

Helmed by Cheyenne Barboza @cheyenne.ane, the cast features Mike Boland @mike.boland as Rutherford Selig, Denise Burse @denise.burse as Aunt Ester, Bjorn DuPaty @bjorn.du.paty as Caesar Wilks, Matthew Elam @mattj.elam as Citizen Barlow, Grace Porter @gracelandsworld as Black Mary, Terrence T.R. Riggins @oneseeingeye as Solly Two Kings and Thomas Silcott @silky014 as Eli.

Set in 1904 Pittsburgh, August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean begins in the home of Aunt Ester — a 285-year-old spiritual healer believed to carry the memory of the African diaspora. When Citizen Barlow arrives from the South burdened by guilt, she sends him on a journey to the mythical City of Bones to confront his past, his ancestry, and the legacy he will carry forward.

As the community wrestles with protest, injustice, and the cost of resistance, this lyrical and powerful story unfolds as a reckoning with memory, identity, and freedom — the first play in the American Century Cycle by August Wilson.
