📖 ⚡️ 🐭 Stepping away from ceramics for a moment, my house has been a frequent stop on the PNW literary circuit over the past week! Two of my best friends visited and both happen to be celebrating recently published books!

🤚🏻 🥣 🌩️ Last weekend I got together with the illustrious @sillypicturemaker to finally bring our clay and wood carving collaboration to a close after over a year of false starts, redos and the difficulties of a long distance handoff. We also got to enjoy another Cubs game together and sit in stunned disbelief that we’ve been friends for 30 years now! #pottery #woodcarving #spooncarving #ceramics #handmade

Currently thinking about this Aristotle quote today.
The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

I have a love/hate relationship with change. I stay in “the same” for a long time. I am a slow boat to turn. But, every once in a while, whether out of necessity or desire, I pull the rug out from under me, because there is also a part of me that craves “the new”.

Transitions are hard for me. Because endings in my childhood were very fraught. I’ve learned to repair a lot of that through a good therapist and by workshopping it in my years spent with families, as a nanny.

Limbo is not fun, but it helps me. It gives me time to care for the part of myself that has to let go. I’ve used this time to visit my family, take an amazing trip to Amsterdam and Portugal. Visit the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank Museum, the MOMA. I climbed up ancient castles, nurtured myself on the most beautiful beaches and in colorful vibrant cities. Stayed with my previous nanny family for a whole week in Houston. Ok, Maybe it is a little fun. I am lucky, to be able to do it. I know.
I saved up.

Last week, I spent last year’s work bonus on a post partum doula training. It was amazing. And I am feeling inspired.

Next week, I jump back in to a full time gig with a 6 month old. I was honestly surprised at how immediately drawn
in I became to the idea of going back to the beginning. We did a trial day, and I enjoyed it so much.

And as a call out to all of my wonderful past families, I thought of each of your babies that day! Where we began… being witness to and shaping their “becoming” will always be something I cherish. It’s truly an honor.
I will always be their LoLo.

Also, It’s August. And that also begins my “missing them” season. I miss my aunt Rosie. I miss my Mom and Dad.

Anyway, it’s a good quote. Use it if you need it. And just know, I’m rooting for you. Thanks for listening. Love you!
