Cosmetic Prostheses

Cosmetic prostheses, also known as custom silicone restorations, are passive prosthetic devices. They are called passive because they do not have active movement, unlike a body powered and myoelectric prosthetic.

Cosmetic prosthetics are made from a custom clear silicone glove shaped to match in high detail the non affected hand. They can even include wrinkles, veins, knuckle definition, and fingernails.

The clear silicone is painted by an artist to perfectly match the individual’s existing skin tone, body hair, freckles, and other natural features. Tattoos and other unique artwork can also be included!

🦾 Devices like this make it more obvious why you can’t roll up to a pharmacy pickup window for a finger, arm, or leg... We are all such different human beings. We all have different roles, responsibilities, needs, and desires in life as well as physical being variations and all of it coalesces into making us each special. It’s the reason there are so many options in the world- because we are all unique. So in a time of the world where everything is weird and our options grow smaller in some areas of life and larger in others - adding another layer of complexity to this social distancing time- I am reminding myself that the decision making skills I use as a clinician and as a coach apply to everything in life: focus on the ultimate or important goal, define each stepping stone integrating financial/ functional/ emotional considerations.... and then adapt, swerve, pivot, fix, and make new decisions as needed. Let’s help each other keep the right perspective as we use our decision making skills in new ways to get through this together ✊
