This design is inspired by the Bedouin.
The Bedouin are Arab nomadic tribes - historically desert-dwelling pastoralists of the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and the Levant.

The name: From Arabic _badawi_ - meaning "desert dweller" or "nomad."

Who they are?

- Traditionally they lived by herding camels, goats and sheep, moving across the desert in search of water and pasture
- Organized in tribes and clans, led by a Sheikh
- Known for a very strong code of hospitality, honor, poetry, and oral tradition
- Lived in black tents made of goat hair called _beit al-sha'ar_ - designed to stay cool in the day and warm at night

Originally from the Arabian Desert, but today Bedouin communities are found in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Egypt (Sinai), Israel/Negev, and across the Sahara.

The material used is agate stones and acrylic beads.

هنا كان العرض الاول للفيلم في مهرجان الدوحة السينمائي 🎞️

احساس جميل انك تفرح بي نجاحك وسط اهلك وناسك واي زول بدعمك بي كل محبة وبدون مقابل كل الناس جات متشوقة وداعمة لينا لأننا في غربة ولازم نقيف مع بعض

والاهم من كده انو الفيلم متعوب عليهو جدا ويستحق يتشاف ويستحق الدعم 🌹

والحمد لله لقي رضا الجمهور والناس كانت بتتفرج بي حماس ومدمجة شديد وكلنا ضحكنا وبكينا وبشرنا وصوت الزغاريد كان مالي السينما 😍
بعد نهاية الفيلم تصفيق استمرّ اكتر من 10 دقايق 👏🏼

بالجد شكرا كل اهلنا في الدوحة السودانيين وغير السودانيين اللي كانوا حاضرين ❤️

On 26 January, CIRS hosted a screening of Cotton Queen (2025), the feature directorial debut of Suzi Mirgani, Assistant Director for Publications at CIRS.

Set in a cotton farming village in Sudan, the film follows Nafisa, a young woman shaped by her grandmother’s memories of resistance to British colonial rule. Through a restrained yet incisive narrative, the film examines the intersections of land, memory, gender, and exploitation amid the arrival of a genetically engineered cotton development scheme.

The screening concluded with an intimate audience Q and A with director Suzi Mirgani and costume designer Simba Elmur, reflecting on the film’s visual language, and historical resonances.

⁨ ‎تصميم الأزياء ليس مجرد ملابس، بل هو سرد بصري يحكي القصة. يقدّم هذا الورشة للمشاركين المنهجية المهنية التي يعتمدها مصممو الأزياء في قراءة النصوص وتحليلها، وتحويلها إلى أزياء تعكس الشخصيات، والمزاج العام، والثيمات السردية للعمل. من خلال قراءات موجهة للنص، وتحليل الشخصيات، ونقاشات جماعية، سيتعلّم المشاركون كيفية تحديد التفاصيل الأساسية مثل الحقبة الزمنية، والمكانة الاجتماعية، والمسارات العاطفية للشخصيات.

‎مع محمد “سيمبا” المور، مصمم أزياء ساهمت أعماله في الحركة المعاصرة للأزياء السودانية من خلال عدد من خطوط الأزياء الطليعية.

Costume design is more than clothing—it’s visual storytelling. This workshop introduces participants to the professional methodology used by designers to interpret scripts and create costumes that reflect character, mood, and narrative themes. Through guided script readings, character analysis, and collaborative discussions, participants will learn how to identify key details such as period, social status, and emotional arcs.

With Mohammed “Simba” Elmur is a costume designer whose work has contributed to the Sudanese fashion movement with a number of avant-garde costume lines.
