BJJ Around the World: Italy 🇮🇹

How did a scene built by practitioners traveling abroad for instruction grow into a country hosting major international Jiu-Jitsu championships?

From early pioneer Federico Tisi @federico_tisi to coaches like Leonardo Santoro @simbagumu, Giuseppe Moriconi @giuseppemoriconibjj, Andrea Baggio @_andreabaggio_, and Luca Anacoreta @luca.anacoreta, Italy’s BJJ scene grew through people determined to build a stronger community on their own mats.

That foundation helped pave the way for European champions and medalists like Simone Franceschini @simone__franceschini, Serena Gabrielli @serenabjj, Manuel Pilato, Jean Luca Maltese @jeanlucajj, and Giulia Angiolini @giuliaangiolini_pt.

Now, with international events like the @ibjjf European No-Gi Championship in Ostia and the @ajptour Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in Rome, Italy has become a destination for athletes from around the world.

➡️ Swipe through to discover how Italy built its Jiu-Jitsu scene from the ground up!
