POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

📚 YET ANOTHER FIVE BOOKS… 📚

… to get to know me by.

THE PENULTIMATE CHAPTER…

Much like movie sequels, these posts featuring five books to get to know me by suffer from diminishing returns so after four chapters, I'll be retiring this from next week.

That does mean that after five weeks you'll have had 25 books to get to know me by so if we are mutuals hopefully there's been something in today's spotlight that has piqued your interest.

This week they are all kind of "time" related in some way. Imagine that.

Again, I won't tell you much about them. I'll leave you to do the digging. I think you'll have heard of a few so no real surprises this week I think.

📚 ‘Sea of Tranquility’ by Emily St. John Mandel. I've read this twice and it's five-starred me twice. DNFd The Glass Hotel though and am dubious about the new one ‘Exit Party’. Persuade me otherwise.

📚 ‘Replay’ by Ken Grimwood – It's a sci-fi classic about a man who gets to ‘replay’ his life numerous times. I've re-read this a few times as you can maybe tell by the state of the cover.

📚 ‘The Memory Collectors’ by @detemeserve – if it wasn't for @ohhushreads I would never had known this book existed. I can't imagine a world where I've not read it.

📚 ‘Time Jump’ by @simcoxadam – one of the newest books in this series and thoroughly deserves its place. I can't tell you the moral of the story as that would be a spoiler.

📚 ‘One Day’ by @davidnichollswriter – Time flies, as the book follows two people over twenty years on the same one day. Not much more I can say about this. I have three copies and it's gets read annually. Em and Dex 4ever.

If you've read these and loved them then if we're not already Bookish friends then we ABSOLUTELY should be!

If these haven't even been on your radar then, well, you know the drill.

Let me know in the comments if we have similar book taste and which one of these tickles your fancy!

What I loved most about Time Jump by Adam Simcox is the way it makes you think about time, regret and death. It takes us back to the 1990s while asking a question many of us have probably wondered at some point: if we could stop time, rewind it or change something in our past, would we?
The book explores the temptation to play God with our own lives, but it also understands that every change has consequences. Through Rachel, we follow someone forced to face impossible choices: what she would change, what it might cost and whether fixing one mistake could create something far worse.
I loved this book. It is thought-provoking and tense with a premise that stays with you long after you turn the final page.

Time Jump by Adam Simcox
3.5/5⭐

I really liked the idea behind Time Jump. I’m always a sucker for a story that makes you wonder what would happen if you could go back and change one moment in your life, and this one had a really interesting take on it. The idea that changing the past can have far reaching consequences you could never have anticipated definitely worked for me.
I also really liked Rachel. She’s flawed and problematic in many ways, yet somehow deeply likeable, and I found myself rooting for her even when I wasn’t entirely convinced by some of her choices.

What let this one down for me, though, was the blurb. It gives away so much of the story that by the time I actually got to those parts, I felt like I’d already been told the good bits. There was very little left for me to figure out for myself, and I think I would have enjoyed the twists and turns a lot more if I’d gone in knowing considerably less.

Still, I enjoyed the concept, Rachel was a great character to follow and there was plenty here to keep me turning the pages. I just wish the blurb had shown a little more restraint and let the story surprise me.

Thank you to @johnmurrays for my #GIFTED advanced reading copy.

How soon can you start decorating?

Another FAQ we hear in the process of quoting a new space, and with good reason.

Our standard lead time is 4-6 weeks. Watch on to discover how this isn’t just for the benefit of our diary, but why it’s equally a good lead time for the homeowner.

We are now booking into November. If you’d like a free estimate, head to the link in our bio. 📆
