A strike mission to Hakuba, Japan, in January. One of those trips where everything lines up and the snow just keeps coming. Four metres of fresh snow in a single week, culminating in the deepest day I’ve ever experienced. At times, it was almost too deep to believe.

The Wormhole - Åka Skidor cover

Simon Hillis and me spent a whole week in Alaska this April waiting for the right weather window, but it never really came. Last year we scored all time conditions, this year was different.

So instead, we started exploring a nearby glacier.
The glacier had developed some extraordinary shapes that season. Constantly changing, constantly disappearing and the more we explored, the more we found. Eventually, we discovered this perfect ice tunnel. I had been looking for something like this for years and suddenly it was right there in front of us. A completely unique moment in a landscape that was already changing as we stood there.

The tunnel is gone now. That’s what makes this image so special to me. It’s a photograph of a moment that can’t be recreated. I’m also incredibly happy that this image is currently in the finals of The Illume.

Three images in The Illume 2026 Finals. Still trying to wrap my head around this.

Being a finalist at Illume has been a dream of mine for years. This was actually my first time ever submitting. I finally felt like I had created something truly special and worth putting into the competition.

I hoped maybe one image would make it. I never expected three.
All three were shot in Alaska with @simon.hillis and the help of @pointsnorthheli . A lot of patience, searching, good timing and a bit of luck went into these images.
Really grateful to see them among the 20 Snow finalists.

1 Year with Lynx ❤️ aka Sugar Muffin, Mister Blister, Stinky Lynx, Baby Boyyy, Chicken. You have been the most amazing companion and friend. You have been the best GIVE’R dog I could have asked for. I fell in love with snow sports through print magazines. They shaped the way I saw skiing, adventure, and photography long before I ever picked up a camera. That’s why contributing to this world means so much to me.

12 ski magazine covers in one single season. Something I never thought possible.

11 of these 12 covers were shot last winter in Alaska with my good friend and favorite skier, Simon Hillis. We first met 8 years ago in British Columbia. He was the youngest pro skier I had ever worked with and instantly the most talented skier I had ever seen. After that season, I moved back to Europe and we made a promise to each other. If we ever reunited for a project, it had to be Alaska. The proving ground.
It took us 7 years to make it happen, and somehow everything aligned. Without Simon, none of this would have happened. Thank you brother for the trust, the commitment, and for pushing every day.

Huge thank you to @pointsnorthheli for believing in us and supporting our vision and goals.

Most of all, thank you to the ski community. I’m incredibly grateful to contribute to the culture that made me fall in love with skiing in the first place.
