Simon Moeren is a German trumpet player and composer based between Rotterdam and Mainz, active in the contemporary European jazz scene. Performing in ensembles ranging from modern jazz small groups to large jazz orchestras, he combines a strong background in big band music with a personal compositional voice developed through his own project, the Simon Moeren Quartet.
Deeply influenced by the harmonic language and poetic writing of Kenny Wheeler and the compositional clarity of Bob Brookmeyer, Moeren’s music explores the balance between structure and freedom.

At the centre of Moeren’s artistic vision lies a simple but demanding idea: to translate everyday life into sound. From intense emotional moments to fleeting human interactions, his music seeks to capture impressions of the present and share them with the audience.

Born in Mainz, he began his professional musical education at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz before continuing his studies at the Conservatory of Rotterdam (Codarts), where he currently studies jazz trumpet with Jarmo Hoogendijk, Jan van Duikeren and Wim Both. Further inspiration came from masterclasses with artists including Maria Schneider, Guillermo Klein, Michael Philip Mossman and Christian McBride, shaping his understanding that composition is not an act of self-display but a way of communicating ideas and emotions.
Alongside performances in various ensembles, including appearances at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the festival Bingen Swingt, Moeren is currently developing new repertoire with the Simon Moeren Quartet. The group is
preparing a European tour with upcoming concerts in Belgium, Germany and Portugal.

Um 20 Uhr geht’s los! Um Hutspende wird gebeten! Danach ist Session, tell your friends!

Besetzung:

Simon Moeren (tr)
Meo Rinaldi (p)
Alice Felix San Payo (cb)
