Few BTS from Botswana and some of the crew, though definitely not all of the folk that made life so easy, comfortable and fun

Before we headed out to Botswana, my dad - who was a prolific documenter of trips and photo album maker back in the day - gave me a couple scans of photos from his time there in 1975 working in the bush as a young man. 45 years on he thought I'd appreciate the memento and half seriously suggested I might find some of the people in his shots still kicking about. I absolutely expected that not to be the case, but lo and behold one early morning we found ourselves stuck in the sand deep in the hinterland, no one in sight for as far as the eye could see. After 20 minutes of digging out wheels and fixing sand traps, a lone Landover casually wended its way through the acacia and an older man got out and asked if he could help. We got talking and I mentioned my dad and he asked to see the photos, quickly realising that he was in one of them (bottom middle)!! Back in the day, Dougie Wright had been one of Botswana's most famous hunting guides. So there you go, our big beautiful world can be awfully small and serendipitous sometimes...

Whilst most of our expedition was through Botswana's wilderness, we were lucky enough to stop by @elephantswithoutborders , an organisation run by Mike Chase and Kelly Landen which tried to identify migratory corridors and secure wild habitats, to actually meet some of their orphaned eles, like this little girl Tuli. Tiny but still phenomenally strong and with a real penchant for trying to pinch anything camera related... 📸@levison.wood

A social distancing connoisseur, Father Maxime used to live full time atop the Katskhi Pillar (swipe to see) in Georgia, a 130ft solitary stone pillar rising out of the valley below. A small chapel was built on its summit by monks around the 10th century, housing little else than a place for centuries' of monks to sleep and a wine cellar (who needs more?!) Just imagine the view from the long drop...

Collaring an elephant with @elephantswithoutborders in Botswana last year. This process allows conservationists to track migration routes and help save the species. I was lucky enough to be allowed to assist this amazing charity to do this vital work. My new series ‘Walking with Elephants’ is coming soon. If you’d like a sneak preview of some of the things I got up to come to my talk in aid of @tusk_org on the 6 Feb at the Emmanuel Centre in London. tickets available in bio 📸 by @bekihenderson @octoberfilms_
