The 90s were a SPECIAL time for New Orleans hip-hop.

In this clip from Live from the Closet with Laci B., DJ Jubilee takes us back to a time when the New Orleans rap scene was flourishing. Artists were creating, collaborating, competing, and building their own lanes—while going head-to-head with the growing influence of Cash Money Records.

Jubilee reflects on artists like Bust Down, Sporty T, UNLV, Partners-N-Crime, and Choppa, and the energy that made the city's music scene so unique.

But it wasn't just about the music; it was about inspiration. As Laci B. points out, these artists helped kids see that their own creative dreams were possible. Whether they wanted to rap, DJ, dance, produce, or create, they had people from their own neighborhoods showing them what was possible.

The music gave a generation permission to dream bigger.
