Earlier this year, a small group from the Veridian team went to @kbis_official to see what’s coming next in home design, and they didn’t come back talking about one big trend. If anything, it was the opposite.

Everything felt more balanced. Still layered with statement pieces, but in a way that felt more grounded and actually thought through. Nothing felt overdone or forced.

It’s the direction you’ll start to see in our furnished models this year, and we’re so exited for the reveals!

We're excited to share that Project Westdale has been featured in @ruemagazine!

Set within a 1930s Tudor in Hamilton's Westdale neighbourhood, the home was thoughtfully reworked by design-build team @simoneandphil into a modern English farmhouse that prioritizes architectural integrity and lived experience.

Our approach to decorating and styling the home was to reinforce that architectural direction—bringing in softness, depth, and cohesion through form and materiality. Curved silhouettes were used to offset the home's structure, while layered textures and natural finishes introduced warmth and subtle variation throughout.

The intention was to create a space that felt composed but not overly resolved—collected, lived-in, and aligned with the way the home is actually used.

Projects like this stay with you, so to see it recognized in this way feels especially meaningful. We're truly grateful to have been part of it.

This project is a 1930s Tudor-style home located in Westdale, a coveted enclave of Hamilton, Ontario. The neighborhood is anchored by McMaster University, one of Canada’s most established universities, and the surrounding area reflects that history through a mix of single-family homes and older properties that have been converted into student rentals over time.

“When our clients purchased the house, much of its original character had been lost after years of use as a rental,” says interior designer Simone Smith. “What we love most about Westdale is the strength of its architectural fabric. Many homes in the neighborhood still retain a clear sense of arrival, proportion, and craftsmanship—qualities that are increasingly rare in newer developments. That context made restoring and reinterpreting this home’s original intent especially meaningful.”

Simone runs the popular design-build firm, @simoneandphil, alongside her partner, Philip McDonald. Their first project, renovating a 100-year-old home, showcased the couple’s passion for preserving historical details, earning recognition—and clients—within the local community.
