@blackboots.nyc this was one of the most peaceful and supportive shoots I’ve worked on. You created two shoots at once and everyone on set was at ease. Thanks so much for including me in your vision. Bravo 🖤

Christmas Eve 2019. I’ve been writing this post over and over again. Should I post, should I not post? I spent a week in the hospital and XMas was right in the middle. I went in for extreme pain, terrified that my cancer may have come back. It took countless teams of doctors and several scans. Finally, it discovered that I had not one, but three fractured ribs (4th, 8th, & 9th) and a fractured vertebrae (T2 for all my medical friends). I’ve been able to process it and I feel more comfortable talking about it. I also spent the day in urgent care yesterday and just felt it was time. Part of me thought it was unnecessary because it’s unrelated to cancer. But these injuries have informed my recovery process. They are creating an experience that requires me to dig deep in that well of resolve and strength all over again. Its a new challenge but so similar.
I’m smiling in this photo but the pain was impossible. I would wake up in the middle of the night in tears. I definitely lost my patience with more than one doctor because the pain was legit driving me mad. I have a lot more empathy for combative patients now. Don’t worry I didn’t go Naomi on anyone. I was just so confused and paranoid by the mind splitting pain. With cancer treatment everything is so controlled. I went to @sloankettering for treatment and being under their care was like smooth sailing. I had a full on amazing team. The urgent care/ on call staff always had solutions to surprise symptoms. But this was so confusing for everyone. I honestly don’t know when, where, or how I sustained these injuries. According to the scans at the time, my fractures were old but showed signs of healing.
I felt so bad for my body. Had I pushed too much? How did I miss this? Is my pain tolerance just unusually high? Or have I just been in so much pain that four fractures didn’t make much of a difference? And how long was I walking around with four splintered bones? So many questions. But it was truly a relief that I didn’t have any new tumors.
Now is the challenge of patience and self-compassion. My body is as strong as she is delicate. I have to love her back to health ✨
S/O to my amazing brothers 💚💚💚

I’m still riding on that adrenaline rush from my first open mic. I debated all day whether or not to go. I found every excuse to stay home and every dust bunny in my flat to clean. Then there were no more excuses and nothing left to clean. I can’t say it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but @stupidcancer made it irresistible. I blame you breast cancer for making me feel alive today.
Full disclosure- I didn’t wake up feeling “alive”. I was in so much pain today. A small part of me made question if a life of chronic pain would be worth it. 😳😔 I had a panic attack triggered by excruciating joint pain. A not uncommon post chemo side effect. My body felt old, brittle and foreign. But then I meditated and prayed. And slowly the fog of anxiety lifted.
I remembered that I fought hard to have an opportunity to Create a life worth living, to create a life worth fighting for. Creation is a process right? Surviving cancer doesn’t make life meaningful, it’s the choices we make in the wake of survivorship.
If you are reading this, I wish you had been there. I got there a bit late but every act I saw was surprisingly hilarious, truly lol funny, insightful, and full of wisdom. The camaraderie I shared with fellow young adult survivors was a much needed serving of soul food.
Our lovely MC @janet_hyde (hope you don’t mind the shout out) gently encouraged “anyone who came late” to share their story. Carpe diem y’all. Ya girl shared her story with shaky hands and a racing heart. There were sighs of recognition and compassion, and surprise- I got some laughs too. 😱🤗 Cancer can be...funny! Who knew?
Did I mention the gorgeous survivor @kellylyn97 who managed to weave Romeo & Juliet, Jersey Shore, an epic trip abroad and her diagnosis into one of the funniest and most creative stand up bits I’ve ever seen? That shit was hella smart!
So I got to share my story. I went by myself. And I feel proud. So I suppose this marks my official exit from “survivor mode” and into “thriver” terrain.
@stupidcancer you guys are doing some serious healing work. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Everyone was a rockstar tonight. Thanks for the encouragement 💚✨
