A powerful way to conclude #shswellbeingweek 💛

Members of #shsbelonging team met with representatives from @youngmindsuk and local MP @simonforstroud to share their views on young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Their insights on community support, rural transport challenges, preventative mental health care, and the need for more safe “third spaces” for young people will help inform the Government’s upcoming Mental Health Strategy.

We’re incredibly proud of Luke, Abi, Martha and Velvette for ensuring young people’s voices are heard at a national level 💛

Last week, UK Friends of Standing Together organised a speaker tour with Daniel Mautner and Beau Elijah Sebastian, two activists who’ve been involved in protective presence activities in the occupied West Bank.

They met with supporters of UKFoST in Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, London and Manchester, and also spoke at an event in Liverpool at Labour Party Conference, hosted by Labour MP for Stroud, Simon Opher.

One of the points discussed at the events was the importance of understanding how often violence is directly backed or indirectly abetted by state forces. Armed settlers are not a rogue element; they are part of a state-backed project to dispossess Palestinians.

Ending that project requires a political revolution inside Israel, and a leadership committed to Israeli-Palestinian peace and equal rights rather than supremacy and ethnic cleansing. Standing Together works to build a political movement around those ideas, whilst in the immediate term mobilising a solidarity presence to confront, resist, and bear witness to the violence of the occupation.

This autumn, Standing Together and Friends of Standing Together will participate in Protect The Harvest, an international mobilisation to stand with Palestinian olive farmers against violence and terror. Several UKFoST activists will visit Palestine and Israel as part of this mobilisation, and will be available for speaking events from November 2026.

If you want to book an event in your community, please contact us at info@ukfost.co.uk.

Thank you to all those who attended UKFoST’s multi-day event across the country, “How Can We Stop Violence in the West Bank”, in conversation with activists Beau Elijah Sebastian and Daniel Mautner, as part of our role in the Protect The Harvest Coalition.

Important questions and topics were discussed, such as:

-Should we be calling the violence we are seeing on the West Bank settler violence or state violence?
-Could Israel put an end to settler violence if she wanted?

It’s not all kids book festival spam here.
Working with partners is one of the ways we open our space to more people and this week we celebrated older persons day in our sanctuary space with Gloucestershire older persons association.
Last year this event was at our Cirencester hub @theolddepartmentstore_ and we were excited to host it here this year.
It brought together some incredible organisations from across the county working to improve services, signposting and joined up community working.

Football is a positive and considerable social force. It brings people together, creates a sense of belonging, gives us shared endeavour – and it’s fun.

At @fgrfc_official last season, we saw the difference that this shared experience game can make for people struggling with their mental health.

No surprise then that it’s back this season. Sometimes in our lives all of us need some simple human interaction, some connection, community and simply having somewhere to go and people to be around.

Football fits that bill perfectly.
