SEE YOU NEXT TIME presents MARKETPLACE: Ep. 3

After brain surgery forces professional surfer Simon Hetrick to slow down, he rediscovers his connection to the ocean through vintage surfboards from the 1970s, '80s, and '90s. This 30-minute documentary follows his cross-country search for forgotten boards, the shapers behind them, and a renewed love of surfing.

My favourite film photo that feels like perfect BTS for our Marketplace movie, yet it’s a shot of our van serving as a surf taxi for Cosmic Creek Vintage Surf Boards, last year in Manasquan. What can I say, Vissla crew - same mindset I guess!

Simon Hetrick, Maryland, 2015, Same Session as the last reel. Also it was just Simon‘s birthday so happy birthday to the psychotically nice human.

Today is marked as an important day on my calendar because today is the birthday of a very special human being – Simon’s. If you ask anyone who knows him, they would agree that he is one of a kind human being. They don’t make them like that anymore – the most humble, kind, inclusive, and respectful person, someone who cares for and loves his friends and family more than anyone I’ve ever met. And if you ask me what I can personally add, well, he is one of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. The most optimistic, ridiculously funny, goofy, easygoing, adventurous partner in all crimes I could ever ask for, with the best sense of humor, that keeps my boat float through every day.
An extraordinarily gifted surfer and musician, a hell of a filmmaker and producer, and the most stoked fisherman of 2025 & 2026. There is so much more to say, and I will, in person.

I’m blessed to have you by my side, Simon. The best of life is only ahead of you. Happy birthday ❤️
