A place for embracing good times 🥂🌺

We were thrilled to reimagine the generous walled garden of this Victorian villa in Blackheath - transforming it into a space for year-round outdoor living.

From a wisteria-covered pergola walkway to a cosy firepit, outdoor kitchen, and hidden seating spots that follow the sun, this garden is all about colour, surprise, delight, and connection.

Natural materials of oak, clay pavers, York and sandstone, create a timeless backdrop, while planting brings both drama and softness: purple beech domes, yew hedging, and woodland ground cover weave together with existing trees for seasonal interest, privacy, and wildlife.

Now, every path feels like a journey, leading from the grandeur of the house down into a garden made for gathering, relaxing, and embracing good times.

Komorebi - Japanese for the beautiful effect of sunlight filtering through trees, creating dappled light and shadows.
Garden by Masa Tamaguchi from the brilliant Garden Club London.
A place to sit or lie in contemplation of the shadows with some steaming tea - totally exquisite

Introducing the Komorebi Garden at Chelsea Flower Show 2025!

• Designed by GCL Lead horticulturist Masa Taniguchi • Sponsored by @hamptons1869 • Built & supported by Garden Club London

Komorebi is the Japanese word for the magical moment when light pierces through the tree canopy and the gently swaying branches make shadows dance on the ground.

Born in Nagoya, Japan, Masa’s passion for horticulture flourished after reading Hiroko Miwa’s transformative book, Midori iro no yasumi jikan (Respite in the Greenery), which inspired him to pursue his studies in horticulture and garden design in the UK. The design draws heavily on Masa’s Japanese heritage and passion for plants - all combined to demonstrate how a pocket forest garden can be created in a small urban space.
