🔔 Opening alert! Lebende Maschinen- Living Machines - September 14, 2026, 19:00 @ @splitartprojects If anyone questions how ancient civilisations reached such a level of refinement and luxury without significant technological advancement will find the answer in a single word: labor. Labor was both the cornerstone and the backbone of the economy. This was also the main reason why its abolition was impossible. Why invent machines when one had slaves at one’s disposal—living machines that, moreover, reproduced themselves? Without exception, in every great ancient civilisation and throughout the centuries up until the end of the 19th century, living machines formed the foundation of the great empires of their time. The rapid advancement of technology eventually rendered them economically unviable. Yet the speed of modern technological development may now be only one step away from surpassing human capabilities—with all that this entails. Are we standing on the threshold of a new form of slavery, yet this time under different terms? Could humans once again become living machines, this time serving technology? Artists are exploring this possibility through their ideas and reflections—the dawn of a new and different world. Join us for the opening night or visit from September 14–21. Simon Kubik, born 1998 in Vienna, is a painter and conceptual artist working and living in Vienna, Austria. His work ranges from figurative, semi-abstract oil paintings to installations and sculptures with ready-made aesthetics. Kubik studied Transmedia Art at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, and has shown his work in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Rome, Seoul, San Francisco, Vienna, Vilnius, Salzburg, Athens, Busan, and Berlin. At the heart of his painting practice is a question about how we actually see. Rather than treating an image as something we simply perceive, his work explores the idea that we register shapes and intensities of light in relation to one another, a kind of reduced impressionism. Each painting becomes an experiment in finding the most honest amount of paint needed to capture that experience, no more and no less. The pictures were taken during his participation in the Artist-in-Residence program of the Kunstraum Sankt Virgil in Salzburg. #SimonKubik #GalerieTassiloUsner

Focus on: Simon Kubik The horizon´s full of hope, 2025 Oil on canvas 40 x 50 Unique In the series “The First Abstraction Humans Universally Accepted,” Simon Kubik explores fragments of clouds. Although clouds are subject to figurative interpretation across all cultures, they are universally accepted and appreciated for their abstract form and beauty, unlike what is often the case with abstract art. The beauty of clouds are understood by everyone, clouds can be everything. The work is currently part of our group show „(sehr) kleine Bilder“, running until July 25th. #SimonKubik #GalerieTassiloUsner
