OUR LOVE STORY

Every Sunday, I used to sit with my mum in church, same row, same spot—our “official family seat.” It was on one of those Sundays that I first noticed him. Jide. He walked past me, and in my mind I just went, “Hmm, this boy is handsome.” You know that kind of crush where you suddenly start fixing your scarf, sitting straighter, and pretending to listen to the word of God more seriously than usual? Yes, that was me.

But God has a way of humbling people. Before I could finish building wedding castles in my head, life happened, we ended up in the same church unit. And that was when the real Jide showed up. My sweet crush transformed into my number-one enemy. He was always so annoying, always had a comment, and somehow always finding a way to get on my nerves. Just like that, the butterflies flew away. Crush deleted.

Still, time has a funny way of softening hearts. Between all the unit meetings and cabal hangouts, we began to talk more. Somewhere in the middle of all the bickering and eye-rolling, a friendship was born. And Jide started liking me. It was obvious. He always find a reason to check on me, or try to have more conversations with me. But me? I wasn’t having it. I had already moved on from the “handsome boy” phase.

But love, oh love—it’s stubborn. Slowly, his persistence, his care, and even his annoying am here for you started to win me over. The same guy who once irritated me became the person I looked forward to seeing. And before I knew it, I gave in.

So here we are today—me and Jide. From my mum’s favorite church seat to enemies in the same unit, to friends, and now, to love. Sweet, funny, and definitely God’s script.
