THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our Artist Reception & Talk at Precious Frivolities! I had the pleasure of sharing my curated personal collection, NFS (Not for Sale), with several of the featured artists—including Tanith, Elise Gagliardi, and Rainey King—joining me to discuss their work. It was wonderful to hear directly from the artists and share the stories and relationships behind the pieces in my collection. Elise Gagliardi also spoke about her own work and the two other artists featured in her exhibition with ION Gallery. Mathew Morgan shared thoughtful insights into his process and unique mixed-media paintings on glass, while Mackenzie Illustrates offered a wonderful look into her practice and approach to self-portraiture through still-life painting. Thank you to all the artists who shared their work and insights, and to everyone who came out to listen, ask questions, and support our creative community. What a wonderful evening of art, conversation, and connection at Precious Frivolities! — Remember to get your ticket for the closing party - limited spots are available and selling out quickly - check @preciousfrivolities page for link and info! — @elise_gagliardi @ion_gallerykc @preciousfrivolities @simulationgallery @rainey__king @galleryathanor @matcaso @mackenzieillustration

Elise Gagliardi and Mark Allen present TWO CLOSING RECEPTIONS! 🎨✨ Join us Saturday, August 22 from 3–6 PM at Precious Frivolities, 1712 Main St., as we celebrate two exhibitions and two galleries under one roof. Precious Frivolities is home to both ION Gallery and Simulation Gallery, two independent gallery projects presenting exhibitions within the larger Precious Frivolities space. This Saturday, both galleries come together for a shared exhibtion closing celebration. ION Gallery, founded and directed by Elise Gagliardi, presents Exhibit B. GRRRRRRRR: Little Dog, Big Bite, the second in a three-part series of pop-up exhibitions inside Precious Frivolities. Featuring Midwestern artists Calder Kamin, Alyssa Underwood, and Melissa Wolf, the exhibition was chosen to remain on view throughout the World Cup as a playful, colorful, and engaging presentation highlighting three artists from the Midwest. Please contact Elise/ION Gallery if you’re interested in receiving the exhibition image and price list. Just steps away, Simulation Gallery, also located within Precious Frivolities, presents Mark Allen’s solo exhibition, MYTHOS. The exhibition brings together photography, screenprints, and even a painted, image-adhered treadmill installation, with works originating from Mark’s MFA thesis at Pratt Institute, where he recently graduated with his MFA in Photography. Please contact Mark Allen if you’re interested in receiving a price list. We’ll also be celebrating Mark’s recent birthday—with cake, of course! 🎂 There’s another reason to celebrate: Elise is a recent MFA graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago! 🎓🥂 Congratulations, Elise! Saturday, August 22 | 3–6 PM Precious Frivolities 1712 Main St., Kansas City, MO Afterwards, head over to @vulpes.bastille for another closing reception from 7–9 PM. Come see the work, celebrate the artists, toast two new MFA grads, have a slice of birthday cake, and make a full Saturday of art in the Crossroads. 🎨🥂🎂 👩‍🎓 @ion_gallerykc @simulationgallery @elise_gagliardi @alfordkcrealestate @markallen.ltd @preciousfrivolities @calderful @alyssaunderwood.art @melissalupewolf

Simulation Gallery, a curatorial project by Mark Allen, is pleased to present Mythos, a solo exhibition by Mark Allen, opening July 3 for First Fridays at 1712 Main Street, inside Precious Frivolities in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District. Featuring work from Allen’s recent MFA thesis exhibition at Pratt Institute, Mythos brings together photographic works that explore modern mythology through film photography, double exposures, layered imagery, and a scrolling installation that echoes the endless movement of the contemporary phone screen. Drawing connections between ancient stories and contemporary image culture, the exhibition asks how symbols, icons, and visual narratives continue to shape human understanding in an era saturated with digital media. How do we respond to images and iconography today? And how do the mythologies of our ancestors continue to influence the ways we communicate, connect, and construct meaning? Through photography and installation, Mythos considers these questions while examining the enduring power of storytelling across time. The Pratt MFA Photography program culminates in a thesis exhibition and emphasizes contemporary approaches to photographic imagery and visual culture, providing the foundation from which this body of work emerged. The exhibition opens July 3 and will be on view at 1712 Main Street in Kansas City. @preciousfrivolities For a full PDF preview of the exhibition, contact markbymarkallen@gmail.com.
