POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

2 summers ago filming the most badass girls, and some older guys that are still pretty good at skateboarding also…

The girls are some of the best skaters in the world, and watching their dedication to the sport and fearlessness in winning and losing while also trying to just be teenagers was an inspiring story to help tell.

Wasn’t sure when this one would make it out of the vault, but it’s airing on @peacock as of tonight!

“The Rise: The Gold Medal Girls of the X Games” is produced by @hellosunshine and features some really cool skaters and their mentors @arisa_trew @reese__nelson @shiloh.catori @tonyhawk @corbinharris @ameliabrodka @christianhosoi @thesuitcase

And the last video has nothing to do with the show, but is the only evidence of me on a skateboard for that entire time period while filming a @lyrah video. Also uncertain where this film camera went…

How do I possibly put into words what the past three days was like?

The uncomfortable conversations, the tears, the learning and unlearning. The feeling that we were actually, finally, taking a stand.

Taking action. Instead of sitting at home sending thoughts and prayers.

I heard about @here4thekidsaction after the Nashville shooting on March 27th. I saw a post probably of @macgyveringmom22 saying enough is enough, it’s time to show up and take action.

This was different than anything I had heard of or attended before. This was different than the marches for Stephon Clark and George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. This was focused on white women showing up, following the guidance and lead of Black, Brown and Indigenous voices.

This was focused on the root of gun violence, white supremacy.

We don’t need anymore super slow incremental progress, we have had decades of policies and laws passed, yet the gun deaths continue to rise.

Focusing on the guns because everyone has been impacted by them.

From the person killed, to the family, friends, doctors and nurses who try to save them, the clergy who deliver the news. Mass shootings have become so common that we can no longer feel safe at movie theaters, grocery stores, church’s and schools.

Being here opened my eyes up to the trauma of teachers who have to teach 5 year olds how to hide from an active shooter, and be quiet. The constant trauma parents feel simply dropping their child off at school, not knowing if their child will come home. To the children who have to endure shooting after shooting and drill after drill.

I met women from 14 states across the country and across California too. We grieved, we shared stories and we imagined what our lives could look like without guns.

People are talking across the country and the world.

I cannot wait to be on these steps or maybe even the Sacramento Capitol, and open my eyes and see 25,000 people standing up for the kids, for the safety of all of us and for change.

My deeply dear friend, Heather, made this amazing movie that you can buy today on Apple. My other dear friends, George and Adam and Christy, were also a big part of it. We roped another pal, Jacques, into helping and Papercranes was lucky enough to work on it too. But mainly: having friends who make amazing work and being lucky enough to work on those amazing projects is kinda all I wanted in life. Heather I love you so much!!

Hey life is weird and sometimes it's a good weird, so I moderated a @comic_con panel about Del Close's batshit 1987 horror-comedy-autobiography comic book, "Wasteland," which @dccomics is reissuing to coincide with the release of our film, @madmenonlymovie. The panel is this Sunday, July 25 at 10am PDT. Also, we had a fun premiere screening and Q&A on Monday night! Thank you everyone who came out, and thank you Dynasty Typewriter for giving me a little sparkle magik 💫
