Come with me to a @kikiandbouba_craftlab !! . They host art classes geared towards working adults based on the philosophy that everyone should have access to an arts education and that everyone should be able to experience the joy of creating! Usually they host their events/classes in their own studio but today’s class required a little extra something so we met offsite @singersny We made Cyanotype prints which is a photosensitive process so we needed a dark room! Their friends at @exposuretherapy.nyc printed our images on special transparencies, helped us time out our prints, and taught us how to develop them! It was so fun to see what photos and keepsakes everyone chose! We printed on pretreated fabric and once they were done cooking in the sun we rinsed our fabric first in water and then in a hydrogen peroxide bath to deepen the blue color! Chemistry and art! Women in STEAM! We got a lesson on the history of photography and Cyanotype printing while our pieces dried. Then we turned them into patches and @kikiandbouba_craftlab helped us sew them onto our bags and hats and shirts! I’m so excited about how my prints turned out! I think im gonna frame my big photo, turn the smaller ones into fridge magnets and make my alien into a bookmark!

When CULTURED contributor @sjlorenn received a text from controversial publicist Mitchell Jackson inviting him to Grimes’s hush-hush performance at Bed-Stuy standby Singers on Saturday, his first thought was, “send an editorial assistant.” But the 38-year-old musician has been in the media for so many things lately, from a disastrous Coachella DJ set to dubious decisions regarding child names, that it’s easy to forget how bizarre and compelling her performances can be. In the end, curiosity got the better of Loren, and he went to investigate for himself.
