POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A road trip was only the beginning.

What started with seven classic Porsches, twelve people and thousands of kilometres across Europe slowly became something else.

First, memories.
Then a film.
Now, an art installation.

Contact Layer of Shinjuku keeps travelling.

October 10, Luftgekühlt Atlanta.
October 24, Reszel Castle, Poland.
November 4–8, Le Garage, Tokyo, during Art Week Tokyo.

And somehow, the story is finding its way back to the city where it all began.

From tyres to movement.
From movement to people.
From people to stories.
From stories to art.

Powered by Nokian Tyres.

I came to Tokyo for a car.
I’m leaving with a reason to come back.

This trip started with the premiere of a very special Porsche, created by Sean Wotherspoon and Yoshizawa-san, with the support of Kameda-san. A project I was lucky enough to be part of, and one more chapter in a story that began here in Tokyo.

But somewhere along the way, another door opened.

In November, Contact Layer of Shinjuku will return to the city where the whole story began.

We found its Tokyo home at Le Garage, during Art Week Tokyo.

I’m grateful to Nokian Tyres for continuing to support this journey, from the road through Europe all the way back to Tokyo.

There is something beautifully circular about that. Shinjuku started here, travelled through Europe, became something bigger, and now it is coming back to Tokyo in a completely different form.

But what I’m taking home from this trip is more than that.

You made me feel like I wasn’t just visiting. You made me feel like part of the family. And that means more to me than any project, car or exhibition.

Somewhere between all of this, Jayson and I were running around Tokyo with a camera, documenting the journey. We came home with something special.

Thank you, Yoshizawa-san, for once again making the impossible feel possible. And thank you to everyone who made this week what it was.

Tokyo, see you again in November. 🇯🇵

Beauty in the Unseen — Porsche 912 × Okaju
A collaborative project that had been in the works since last November was finally unveiled.
Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of haura—the decorative lining hidden inside a kimono—Okaju was entrusted with creating the lining of the Porsche 912’s trunk.
For this special project, we selected Tai-zukushi (“A Celebration of Sea Bream”), one of the signature designs preserved in our archives for more than a century.
Reimagined in a bespoke colour palette by Sean Wotherspoon, the design was dyed using the traditional kata-yuzentechnique with 18 separate stencils.
The moment the trunk was opened at the venue, the audience responded with an audible “Wow!”
It felt like a true expression of uramasari—the uniquely Japanese sensibility of devoting the greatest care and artistry to places that are normally hidden from view.
We were deeply moved to see everyone experience the original spirit and beauty of this design in such an immediate way.
This one-of-a-kind art car was brought to life through the collaboration of many people, including @singertracks, who gave us this incredible opportunity.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved.
