After the 11:30am Mass on November 1st, we will process with Jesus Himself into West Philly and onto Penn’s and Drexel’s campuses. Today, September 23, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Pio of Pietrelcina.

In the early hours of September 23, 1968, after a lifetime devoted to prayer, suffering, and the celebration of the Mass, Padre Pio’s earthly life came to an end in San Giovanni Rotondo. His final words were reported to be “Jesus” and “Mary.”

But Padre Pio’s life can be summed up in a prayer he so often repeated:

“Jesus, I look for You alone, your love, your grace, your heart. I love You and seek to love You more and more.”

And here in Rome, at San Salvatore in Lauro @sansalvatoreinlauro you can visit nine relics of this beloved saint, including:

• Two gloves
• His stole
• His mantle
• Linen used for the wounds of his stigmata
• His Franciscan cord
• Drops of his blood

These relics point us back to the life of a man who sought Jesus above everything else.

If you are in Rome, make a pilgrimage to San Salvatore in Lauro and ask for St. Pio’s intercession.

🚨I USED to follow false #religion & pray to Mary, to dead saints & worship idols & false gods. I GREW up & WAS a #catholic for MANY years...

Abide in Him

Augustine discovered that the basis of his own search for fulfillment was an inner “restlessness” — that no matter how much we accomplish in life, no matter how many titles we gain or things we accumulate, we will never feel fully satisfied. We will always want more and naturally keep searching. Underneath all of this searching is a search for the God who created us.

This is absolutely my favorite Saint quote- for a multitude of reasons. But to keep it short- Saint Augustine is extremely relatable, and in this scenario once I tasted the love of the Lord, my heart set ablaze and I thirsted and hungered all the more for Him. - Jack

So first off — and this may surprise some people given how passionate I am about Jesus and the Catholic Church — I am a Catholic revert.

I grew up Catholic and received the Sacraments at a young age. But like most kids, I didn’t really grasp what it meant to be Catholic or truly understand who Jesus was. I learned about the faith in Religious Ed classes, but it never really stuck or fully clicked for me.

At the same time, athletics were a huge part of my life. My parents identified as Catholic, but we barely went to Mass. We were mostly “Easter and Christmas Catholics,” and faith was never truly a priority in our home. Of course, I wish I had known Jesus more personally at a younger age, but as I — and all believers — now know, God always has a plan and purpose for our lives.

Fast forward to 2020, during my 8th grade year and the height of COVID. At the time, I believed in the idea of God or some sort of creator, but I was much more fascinated by space and the stars. Not in a pagan or spiritualistic way, but because it was the first spark within me that made me seriously ponder God and creation.

At the same time, my dad was becoming much more serious about his faith. He decided to read the Bible cover to cover to figure out whether it was actually true or not. Long story short… he discovered that it was.
