Milan, October 2024.

I still remember walking along Via Montenapoleone as the sun was setting and the boutique lights began to come alive. When I reached Cartier, the door unlocked with a quiet click. A moment later, the glass elevator was carrying me up towards La Résidence, and the city slipped out of view.

As I moved through the boutique, the idea of a tree began to feel less like a metaphor and more like something built into the space itself. The staircase rises like a trunk, drawing the eye from the Milanese street below towards the rooms above. Rooted in the city, the boutique seemed to grow into Cartier’s world, connecting the history of Via Montenapoleone with the maison’s own heritage.

At the top, almost above the canopy, was the Tank Cintrée Montanapoleone, created to celebrate 50 years of Cartier in Milan.

Its burgundy details, inspired by the boutique’s address, number 16, made that connection tangible. Milan wasn’t simply the setting for the anniversary. A little of the city had found its way into the watch itself.

The evening unfolded around us. A table was scattered with Métiers d’Art sketches; a three-dimensional model showed how the Coussin de Cartier case could flex; and the Rotonde de Cartier dials revealed extraordinary detail. Nearby, an artisan worked on an enamel dial beneath a microscope. I stood watching, fascinated by how much patience and skill could live in such a small space.

There was also @goldberger ’s collection of Tank Cintrée watches. Listening to Auro and Michel Aliaga talk about the Cintrée and Cartier’s heritage, I had that rare feeling of being close to a story rather than simply hearing it retold. For a moment, the past felt alive, still inspiring the people and creations around me.

And all of this took place amid champagne, parmigiana di melanzane and conversations that made the evening pass far too quickly. I left feeling I had experienced something more than an anniversary: a moment in which Milan and Cartier’s histories met, and the boutique seemed to embody that connection, rising from the city below and carrying its story upwards.

Some stories are not meant to stay in the past.

They are passed from one generation to the next, shaped by different hands, different ideas, different moments, and yet somehow remain unmistakably themselves.

Walking through the Patek Philippe Grand Exhibition in Milan, I found myself thinking about that.

About what it means to inherit something you did not create, and still have the responsibility to carry it somewhere new.

Because perhaps the most beautiful part of heritage is not looking back.

It is realizing that the story is still being written.

This time, I decided to let you experience what I lived through in the Swiss Alps.

The sound of the wind, the engine getting ready to accelerate, the water rushing down the mountainside.

The road keeps unfolding in front of you, curve after curve. Green mountain walls, rocks and waterfalls passing by as you climb higher.

And on my wrist, the 6119G.

With every turn, the light changes and the Clous de Paris bezel reflects the landscape around it, creating a beautiful contrast between the refinement of the watch and the rawness of the Alps.

Then, following another hairpin turn, the landscape suddenly opens up.

And there we are.

The famous viewpoint, the glacier, the waterfall cascading down the mountain, and sports cars constantly arriving and leaving after taking on the winding road.

After all those curves, the destination finally reveals itself.

But somehow, the journey was just as memorable.

Some memories are tied to a place. Others to a feeling.

For me, this one is tied to a watch.

I could tell you about it, the way I usually do. But this time, I wanted to do something different.

I wanted to take you along the road, through the mountains, and into a moment I lived myself.

Not just tell you what I remember, but let you feel it. See it. Hear it.

The destination comes next.

There is something about watching a familiar city pass by through a car window.

The streets you know by heart. The buildings you have seen countless times. Squares and monuments that have been part of your life for as long as you can remember.

Some have changed along the way, almost growing with you. Others seem to have stood still, keeping the same solid presence while everything around them moved on.

I think a lot of our sense of wonder comes from moments like these. From simply looking at the world around us and being fascinated by what we see, even when it is something we have seen countless times before.

As children, that feeling came so naturally. A toy, a book, a little object we had just discovered could keep us completely absorbed. We could look at it for ages, simply because we found it beautiful or fascinating.

Growing up, I don’t think we lose that feeling. We just find different things that bring it back.

Sometimes, in the middle of a completely ordinary day, I look down at my wrist and find it again.

The light catches the dial, a detail suddenly stands out, and for a moment I just stop and look at it.

It reminds me of that same feeling I had as a child.

And maybe that is what I love most about watches.

They can still surprise you when you least expect it.

Sometimes you leave home with almost every detail of the day already planned, only to come back thinking about the things you never could have planned.

The idea was simple: get away for a while, clear my mind, and let the Swiss Alps do what they seem to do best. A spontaneous picnic in the mountains, an alpine lake in front of me, green valleys passing by outside the window, and eventually Gstaad.

I had heard that name so many times that I thought I already knew what to expect.

A place I had mostly seen through watches, travel and social media. Beautiful, refined, exclusive, almost too perfect to be real.

But Gstaad was something else entirely.

I left the car, crossed the little pedestrian bridge over the river, and suddenly found myself in the middle of a celebration.

Cows, bells, people in traditional Swiss clothing, and the deep sound of alphorns echoing between the chalets. Restaurants were full, people were enjoying the afternoon, and the mountains stood quietly behind it all.

It felt almost like walking into a postcard, except the postcard was alive.

That was the moment I understood what made Gstaad so different.

Not simply its boutiques or reputation, but the way alpine traditions, breathtaking landscapes and the energy of a living village seem to coexist so naturally.

And somehow, that same contrast followed me throughout the afternoon.

The Tank Américaine, with its unmistakable elegance and refinement, felt almost unexpected against the mountains, the cows and the sound of the alphorns.

Yet looking at it there, it didn’t feel out of place at all.

Maybe that is what made the day so memorable.

Nothing extraordinary had been planned. I simply set out to spend a day in the mountains, and somewhere along the way, the day became something completely different from what I had imagined.

The kind of memory that stays with you long after the road home is over.

Not mine. These are photos I took at Watches and Wonders 2026.

The more I studied the Crash, the less I saw it as an isolated design.

Looking back at the shapes Cartier explored over the decades, I began to see a progression: from geometry to curves, from symmetry to asymmetry, from structure to something increasingly fluid.

The connection I draw from there is my own.

But it changed the way I see the Crash completely.

Not simply as one of Cartier’s most recognisable watches, but as a moment in which a century of exploring form seems to meet something much older than design itself: the world around us.

I saw this sometime back and was completely mesmerized by it.

Never expected I'd actually find one sitting in the backyard of my tiny island 🇸🇬

No hype. No auction. No hunting through some obscure Japanese dealer.

And the crazy part?

It had been sitting untouched for almost 2 years.

Just quietly sitting inside an old red box, waiting to be found.

Sometimes the best finds aren't halfway around the world. They're right in your own backyard. 🇸🇬

Some of the most extraordinary ideas begin when we stop looking at things only for what they were made to do.

I wanted to return to Paris in 1917, to a city already learning to experience distance and movement differently, and to the world Louis Cartier was observing around him. A world of machines, new possibilities and profound change, where even an object created for an entirely different purpose could become the starting point for something unexpected.

The story of the Tank is also a story about the Cartier way of looking. The Tank Watch and The Cartiers reveal two different perspectives on this remarkable moment, and together they make one thing particularly fascinating: how much of Cartier’s creativity came from looking beyond jewellery itself. Architecture, textiles, books, cultures, objects and people could all become part of the same creative language.

And perhaps there is something deeply moving in that idea. A form can carry the memory of the world that created it, while finding a completely new life in another.

Sometimes, all it takes is seeing the familiar differently.

There was a time when Paris could only be seen from the ground.

Today, we barely think about it. The Seine drawing its way through the city, the avenues connecting one place to another, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe becoming part of a view we almost take for granted.

For Alberto Santos-Dumont, that perspective was still something new. He was not simply learning to fly. He was discovering a different way of seeing the world, at a moment when the world itself was beginning to change.

Reading Cartier in Motion brought that feeling even closer to me: the movement, the machines, the new ways of crossing the world. And The Cartiers adds another dimension to the story, the family behind Louis and their remarkable ability to recognise people, ideas and ways of living that were beginning to shape what came next.

And then there was their friendship.

Louis recognised something in Alberto that went beyond aviation. He recognised a different way of seeing, and gave it a form that could live on the wrist.

The Santos Dumont was born from that meeting of minds: a family looking towards the future, a friendship, and one man’s desire to see the world from somewhere new.

Perhaps that is why, more than a century later, it still feels as though it arrived a little before its time.
