A few more wonderful images by @_eloise_frey from my Drawing Performance Project workshop at @klatchstudio on 21.3.26.

Facilitating spaces for creative collaboration and critical engagement with the ebb & flow of performance making continues to be a privilege and fascination for me.

Drawing provokes us to pay attention to the performers, their movements and their placing and spacing within the performative environment.

It is a joy to witness participants concentrating as they draw & to see designers particularly grow in confidence in the ways in which they inhabit the rehearsal process & interact with performers.

Our next big workshops & performances will be in September @parkroyaldesigndistrict @queensrollahouse Will share more about this soon

A moment to reflect on our beautifully inventive @drawingperformanceproject day last weekend at @klatchstudio @parkroyaldesigndistrict

I am so excited to continue to bring together incredible performers, visual artists, performance designers, lighting technicians/designers and sound artists in order that participants at our workshops can encounter & experience inventive, inspiring and inclusive performance spaces. Thank you to all my collaborators.

The participants at our workshop on 21.3.26. brought generosity, imagination and tenderness to the space. I am, as always, so grateful to all who join us & share in our performative endeavours and encounters.

Special thanks to @chihiro.kawasaki_ for leading the workshop with me. Your movement ideas & warm ups enable us to heighten our energy & build even greater embodied understandings.

Thanks too to brilliant photographer and filmmaker @_eloise_frey for these amazing images.

Our Spring @drawingperformanceproject workshop at @klatchstudio in @parkroyaldesigndistrict was such a joy filled, inventive & inspiring day.

Huge thanks to all who participated, supported, danced & drew & to Becka @klatchstudio for the amazing space. This group brought such generosity & warmth to our day. It really strengthened my, already strong, belief in the importance of collaboration & the collective imagination

Special thanks to my co-leader & longtime collaborator @chihiro.kawasaki_ & to all our other amazing dancers @ferghasclavey @rozedoza Jack Algar & @gravelly_ciar

Thanks too to @connie._.07 for her support, to Jim Algar for installing & operating our beautiful lighting & projection & to @_eloise_frey for filming our day. These images are by me…will post Eloise’s ones soon.

Really excited to announce our next @drawingperformanceproject workshop on Saturday 21st March.
Ticket link in bio.
Please join us at @klatchstudio for another fantastic day of experimentation through drawing and movement. Have fun and meet new collaborators
Join artist, performance designer and educator Lucy Algar @lucyalgar_ and dancers Chihiro Kawasaki @chihiro.kawasaki_ , Ferghas Clavey @ferghasclavey , Ronan Cardoza @rozedoza and Jack Algar for another extraordinary and informative @drawingperformanceproject workshop. Our workshops enable participants to consider and explore the similarities and differences between the practices of visual and movement artists. As these workshops were developed initially for Theatre and Performance Design students we will be focusing on and opening up experiments around scenographic and choreographic elements such as spatial awareness, form, placing, light and shadow.

We are thrilled to return to @klatchstudio a large studio which offers us plenty of space, a full lighting rig and a welcoming green room for chats over lunch. Nearest tube North Acton.

This workshop is open to all over age 14, no experience necessary. We just ask that you are keen to collaborate and to experiment with drawing and movement. Through doing so we hope that you will gain a wider range of drawing and mark-making skills as well as a greater understanding of your own body and how it informs your practice and of performing bodies generally. Please wear clothes that are easy to move in and that you don’t mind getting charcoal on!

We provide all materials and some refreshments. Participants are welcome to arrive from 1015, we will start warming up at 1030 and break for lunch around 1230. We have found that previous participants have really enjoyed having time to meet potential collaborators and to discuss our experiments over lunch. We will then continue the workshop in the studio from 1330-1500 and finish with the dancers giving a celebratory costumed performance.

My @drawingperformanceproject workshops often, though not always, conclude with the drawings made in response to movement transforming into costumes. The swift transition from 2D drawings to 3D costumes enables designers to encounter & believe in new ways of making. The final performances celebrate collaboration & connection. Here @siqi.yi.47 performs in a costume created by @emiliodelamorena & @philippamccall What a joy it was to lead this workshop & witness everyone creating & performing with such commitment and passion. Thanks to all participants, performers, producers & crew. #draw #drawing #drawingdance #costumedesign #drawingperformanceproject #performancedesign All images by @lucyalgar_
