Surviving and success shouldnt be dependent on the class you’re born into or being special. This stressful.

This is what it feels like after watching Judas and the Black Messiah. Reminding me of my aggressive/activist days as a yout. Spent most of HS working to fit in. Then my last semester I began speaking my mind about inequality and injustice; becoming a greater advocate in Teen Court. This carried over into college. Marching and organizing protests with other advocates at the 6th Circuit and the Supreme Court for equity-based admissions practices. #BunzBlackHistoryMonthFact

I fought to uplift, improve access and I told anyone who listened, I had now, and I cared who had next. Pipeline building, never resting upon how far we’ve come. So I sought more like minded folks and organizations. That is how I found and came to love #IotaPhiTheta.

Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1963 at Morgan State College, now University, by 12 men, who were inspired by the Civil Rights Movement. After participating in the March on Washington, they wanted to harness that energy on campus through greater activism, which led to the birth of the brotherhood. That energy permeates throughout the organization and as an activist leader, I was drawn to it.

As Iota grew, it attracted militant minded men. Many involved in their local NAACP or Black Panther chapters. Congressman Bobby Rush was a prime example. Because before we celebrated seeing T’Challa on the screen, we were loving the community building and local empowerment programs that the Black Panther Party created.

But the FBI, through COINTELPRO, intentionally destroyed a movement for equality. Because we can't protest the killing of unarmed Americans. Can’t arm up like the NRA tells us is our 2nd Amendment Right. Can't take a knee to silently protest. But storming the US Capitol can be justified. This is what it feels like…

Too late; you know they hate when you become more than they expect. Pray for me yall, one day I'm gon have to pay for these thoughts.😔

"Dr. King's policy was, if you are nonviolent, if you suffer, your opponent will see your suffering and will be moved to change his heart. That's very good. He only made one fallacious assumption. In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience. The United States has none." -Stokely Carmichael

As a Black Man in a time of despair and uncertainty, I understand that we go through a range of emotions and feelings. But I have hope that we will see progress, move toward a more just and culturally empathetic America who truly embraces all Americans regardless of their differences as we band together to eradicate corporate welfare, billionaire greed, a disparate tax system, and voter suppression. I will do my part to help move our country forward. But in the meantime, here's a #tbt post and reminder of a happier time. I challenge those who I’ve tagged and those I have not to do the same. 🌟Upload 1 picture of yourself... ONLY you, and then tag as many brothers as possible to do the same. Let’s build ourselves up and never tear one another down.

Man I missed my brothers. Had an amazing conversation with these 2 about life, marriage, fatherhood and legacy. Can’t wait to see what happens next for them and their growing families. #Salute

Brotherhood. Its one thing to celebrate your individual success. It’s another thing to celebrate a TEAM victory. I appreciated the lessons learned from failures (or "delayed victories). No complaints and no regrets!

In general, I really loathed anything group-related. Inasmuch, I'm learning this tends to be a necessity for individual success. Such a paradox…

And of course, HAPPY FOUNDERS DAY to the Men of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated #iota #iotas #iotaphithetafraternityinc (PS: I cannot remember all yallz IG names, shat!) •
