What a summer for Backbone Surf Co. 🤙

It’s been easy to sell fins in our hometown of Bend, Oregon. If you just show up to the wave and let people try them, they always want a set!

But we want to expand our reach and get these fins into the hands of more surfers. With Corinne teaching junior lifeguards in LA this summer, we thought, why not surf our way around California and talk to some surf shops along the way?

We got to do a fun event at @elportosurfshop for their First Thursdays event—and if you haven’t been, check it out! Such a fun time. It was our first vendor event and, well… definitely a learning curve 🤪

For example: maybe don’t put your old prototype fins that you already know might break on display.

In our defense, we didn’t think @brogsurf was going to put them through quite such a rigorous test 😂 We don’t blame you though 😉 That’s what prototypes are for!

We’re doing something different. Progressive-flex fins aren’t your average FCS or Futures fin, and there hasn’t been a ton of innovation in surf fins for a while. We think there’s a lot of room to rethink what a fin can do—and we’re here to try.

Change is tough. Getting people to try something new is even tougher.

But we believe in these fins, and this summer reminded us why we started Backbone in the first place: to make something we genuinely love surfing—and hopefully get it into the hands of a whole lot more surfers.

I spent the last five weeks unplugged in the desert celebrating Marc’s life with our nomad community.

One of my best friends @rose.colored.tattooing
spent the day tattooing me and some of Marcs closest friends; they all got matching Buffalo tattoos.

I decided to get the same tattoo I gave Marc out in the desert last year. The first tattoo I had ever done.
I’ll forever have a little piece of him with me.

Thank you again @_roseamelia the whole day was absolute magic. ✨
