A huge thank you to Fran Sanders and the REELpoetry International Film Festival for the invitation to present ‘Palabras Prestadas | Given Words’ in Houston!

Six of our films were made with support for contemporary creation from Madrid City Council @madrid #ayudaalacreacióncontemporánea2025 #ayudaalamovilidad2026

It was a wonderful weekend, with the opportunity to meet local and international poetry filmmakers and enjoy a little of this lively city.

Enjoy this selection of my photos of the in-person screenings, discussions and performances at MATCH - Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston.

The festival it is currently ONLINE with access to on-demand streaming through November 15, 2026. It includes curated screening of Ukranian, Turkish and South Asian films alongside the full Juried Selections and a Video Jukebox.
See link @reelpoetryfilmfest for the programme and tickets.

Apparently we thought having Sissy, Cilia and me on the same stage was a good idea. So we’re doing exactly that.

REELpoetry International Film Festival in Houston was absolutely amazing & it was my fifth year working for the festival, but my first time curating a program of sign language creative videos made by Deaf and Hard of Hearing poets, performers, and storytellers.

Thank you Fran Sanders (director of REELpoetry) for having me and trusting me to run ASL programming with Heba.

Thank you Alex V @alexavarka for creating a gorgeous social media campaign and helping run this festival and keeping everything smooth 🎵

Also a big THANKS to Heba Toulan @hebatoulan for helping me curating and creating this program. I couldn’t have done any of this without her. I’m also happy we both got to become friends (we both met through Fran two years ago)

I had a dope time meeting, befriending and networking with a group of amazing poets, filmmakers, artists and creative people from different parts of the world.

This experience has REAFFIRMED my vow to keep promoting and platforming more creative works by Deaf and hard of hearing people (as well as EVERYONE ELSE TOO!!! Don’t worry I don’t discriminate!)

Swipe for more photos and check out everyone I had met in Houston 🫶🏽😻
