Fitzroy, She Wrote. A love letter to Melbourne’s inner-north woman and the Australian designers who get her 🌹 Now featured in @vanguardmagok

There’s a little pocket tucked away in the vast Australian landscape that feels a world away from the version of Australia so often presented to everyone else. Beyond the beaches and surf towns, there’s Fitzroy. And in Fitzroy, there’s a woman. Let’s call her Sara.

You’ve probably passed her on Brunswick Street. Perhaps you noticed how she wore two prints you’d never have thought to pair.

She lives in a light-filled apartment. It’s minimal, though her love of buying books is beginning to complicate that.

She wants to fall in love, but sometimes wonders how much of this little world she’ll get to keep when she does. For now, she’s enjoying having it to herself. The clothes can stay on the chair, one song can play four times, and a Sunday can disappear without becoming a discussion about what they should do with it.

She buys Australian designers, saves for pieces she can’t stop thinking about, and wears them often enough that her friends begin to associate them with her.

Sara had slowly filled her little Fitzroy world with her people, clothes, art and little rituals that made her feel most herself. Perhaps she wrote it this way.

By six, Sara is on her way to meet a friend. The books stay open, the dishes can wait, and she’s wearing the shoes she can only comfortably walk three streets in. Luckily, there’s a glass of orange wine waiting for her at Glou, just two streets away.

Sara’s story is a love letter to Melbourne’s inner north, to the designers creating alongside it, and to the women who make those clothes their own.

She knows she lives in a bubble. It’s especially lovely at this time of day. X
