My late friend Jahmes introduced me to this instrument called Kalimba that I don’t know how to play yet but I adore the sound of it and it lifts my spirit up whenever I make an attempt . Plus I think of Jahmes and feel gratitude for his beautiful soul that graced this earth even if for short time. I love you Jahmes and I love my Kalimba now. Play music. Your soul will be happy.

Our hearts were so full yesterday as we hosted our first event in Tricklebee + Oncata collaboration space where we will be coming together to make stuff, connect with each other, bring our kids, build a village and so much more. Thank you Christie, David and everyone at Tricklebee who worked so hard to get this space together 🙏🏽 Thank you @zkryh9 for sharing your wisdom and love. Join us on October 10 for more of this goodness 💚

The supreme good is like water,
which nourishes all things without trying to.
It is content with the low places that people disdain.

How old were you when you discovered this?

My neighbor Joe is “goals” for what it means to have a deep passion for a craft and make it into a career. Decades of performances across the world and work with the symphony. Machines can’t feel the passion only imitate it. We can hear the difference. #aivshuman #ageofai #drummerlife

Parable of the Sower opens on a walled neighborhood in a California that’s already burned through its future — no government worth trusting, water rationed, violence outside the gate as ordinary as weather. Lauren Olamina is fifteen, and she has hyperempathy, a condition that makes her feel other people’s pain as if it were her own. In a world this cruel, that’s not a gift. It’s a liability she has to hide even from her own family.

She’s also quietly building a religion — not faith in a God who watches over anyone, but belief in Change as the one force that never stops acting on you. She’s trying to write down a way of living with that truth before the world outside the walls finally gets in.

What unsettles people now isn’t just the mood, it’s the specifics. Octavia Butler wrote this in 1993, and the sequel, Parable of the Talents, gives its demagogue presidential candidate the literal campaign slogan “help us make America great again.” Add the climate collapse, the wealth gap turned into walled fortresses, the corporate towns that own their own workers — readers keep finding the book’s fiction sitting a little too close to the news.#booktrailer #bookclub #bookreviews #parableofthesower

Horza is a shapeshifter, which makes him the right vessel for the book’s real question: what do you owe your own kind, when your kind might not be worth saving? He fights for the Idirans — devout, warlike, utterly certain of themselves — against the Culture, a civilization of machines so advanced they’ve made comfort and reason into a kind of religion. Neither side wants him for who he is. The Idirans need his body. The Culture doesn’t need him at all.

He’s not fighting for a cause so much as fighting against the idea that a mind without a body, without stakes, without anything to lose, should get to decide what’s good for the rest of the galaxy. But the humans and near-humans he throws in with aren’t any better — stubborn, tribal, dragging their worst instincts across the stars with them. Banks doesn’t let you land anywhere safe. Every side in this war is wrong in a different way, and Horza is the one caught holding all of it.

🎬 The trailer’s up. The book is where it actually hurts.#booktrailer #bookreviews #aislop #bookclub
