Dave wasn’t just my best friend—he and his incredible family became my family. His sudden passing at 55 years old left an emptiness that words can never fully describe. Yet even in my grief, his life continues to remind me what truly matters…faith, love, kindness, laughter, and showing up for the people you care about. He does all of those things daily 💝🙏 Dave always made people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. His legacy lives on through his beautiful family, the countless lives he touches, and the unwavering faith he inspires in me and so many of us. Though my heart aches, I know his spirit continues to open new doors for us—to love more deeply, to live more fully, and to keep our faith strong even when life doesn’t make sense. Dave, you will forever be in our hearts. Your life is a gift, your friendship is a blessing, and your memories will continue to guide us every day. We love you, Dave, and we will carry your light with us always. You are the forever “Rattlesnake Guy”. Thank you for showing up 💗🙏

The Church Camp book tour is quickly coming to a close with final events in Santa Cruz and Oakland in June. If you’re in Santa Cruz County, join me at @ccsvchurch this Sunday, 6/8 for preaching at 10 am and a conversation with Brian McCutchen at 5 pm. @mccutchen1 is a longtime friend, current pastor, and former camp director who gets the tangled both/and of the place we dearly love. I hope you’ll trust us as we navigate paradox together. If you’re in Oakland, I’m stoked to be at @oaklifechurch on 6/15 at 10 am, St. Lucy’s Episcopal at 5 pm that same day, and @stjohns_oakland with @sivricketts on 6/29 at 7:45 (gulp) and 10 am. All will involve conversations after services. Also, St. Lucy’s is a new church plant for ex-evangelicals and former evangelicals at meets twice a month at St. Paul’s Episcopal in Oakland …how much do I love THEM apples? It is a joy and an honor to engage in the kinds of conversations that matter. Thank you for listening, for trusting, and for joining me along the way. Now, go eat some s’mores! #churchcamp #churchcampbook

It’s here, it’s here! Church Camp: Bad Skits, Cry Night, and How White Evangelicalism Betrayed a Generation is coming to a city near you. Okay, fine: really cool conversations and readings are maybe coming to a city near you if you live on the West Coast. I am not a big fancy author (no offense, self), so the bill’s on me to get to a city near you. So, if you DON’T see your town, rally the troops! Host an online event! Make something happen! Otherwise, see your city? Tag your peeps or share this in Stories so they can save the date and join the fun. Let’s go! ⛺️🔥🏕️

We like a lot of the same things, so we did a bunch of them this weekend: long walks, tacos, art, coffee, plants, the zoo, the beach. We hadn’t planned on walking home from pasta in the rain, but we did that too.

Rickie's Rickets Journey: Medical kidnapping series: Vitamin D deficiency/ infantile rickets Website: https://shorturl.at/GBg2H Link in profile Bio Rickie's Rickets Journey is a tale of medical misdiagnosis and medical kidnapping. The Owl family finds themselves being falsely accused of causing harm to their son, Rickie, who has a fractured wing with no signs of maltreatment. After being taken to the hospital, Rickie gets misdiagnosed and apprehended from his loving parents, based on the opinion of the Owl abuse pediatrician, Dr. Stoneheart. Rickie's family faces their fate bravely and fights the false accusations. They are able to prove at trial that Rickie was, in fact, sick with infantile rickets, and their family is reunited. The book opens up discussion about the topics of medical misdiagnoses and medical kidnappings of sick children. How did the accusing doctor get it so wrong? Why does she refuse to change her opinion when she is proven wrong? Why are parents seen as guilty until proven innocent? What can you do if you similar accusations? How can your family deal with this trauma, reunite and heal? #rickets #ricketts #Rickettsia #ricketsjourney #medical #medical #medicalcare #medicalstudent #medicalstudent #medicalaesthetics #medicalschool #medicalassistant #medicalkidnapping #vitaminddeficiency #booklover #BookLoverGift #bookloversday #bookloversclub #bookloversunite #bookloversoftiktok
