This is a long-overdue post. In June, my amazing and talented students performed at MiST Theatre at UofT Mississauga!

Having lived in Canada for 6 years, and teaching almost since the day I arrived, I finally produced my very first theatre student show after years of hard work. Twenty-five beautiful dancers showcased their passion, dedication, teamwork, and love for flamenco. My wonderful friends Shirley Pincay and Nicolas Hernandez brought our choreographies to life with their incredible live music.

Thank you to all my students and their families for their commitment and enthusiasm week after week. Thank you to my husband, daughter, friends, and family for helping me bring this show to the theatre. And thank you to my dear friend @six.shutter.photography for capturing these beautiful moments! I am so proud and happy, and I look forward to many more shows and learning together in the new academic year starting in September.

Teaching flamenco and producing a show like this has been my dream for many years. I have always been deeply inspired by the artists and producers in my home country of Venezuela, who manage to put together the most beautiful, moving, and inspiring performances every year amid incredibly complex conditions—challenges now aggravated by the devastating earthquakes.

While this milestone brought me immense joy, it has otherwise been a difficult summer. To my fellow artists and friends outside of Venezuela: if you are able to support the reconstruction of art academies there, please visit aplausosdepie.com.
