We’re proud to announce and celebrate Sally “Salty” Haslam—survivor, advocate, and now a Titans Space Industries Astronaut Candidate. 🚀
With the unwavering support of SLF, WJL, and her own unshakable courage, Sally has rewritten her story—one that began with survival and now reaches for the stars.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that when women are supported, believed, and resourced, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.

Let’s honour this milestone and stand beside every survivor daring to dream big.
Sally, you inspire us all. 💫

This last week of our journey was spent in beautiful Northern Italy. Particularly the historic Florence.

The weather was fantastic, as was the food!

In Florence we were amazed by the heritage buildings and the history (Roman and Renaissance). We learnt lot about the Medici’s and their influence over Europe and could not believe the variety and volume of priceless art in one town. We met all the Ninja turtles, Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo and Leonardo!

Some highlights of Florence were:

- The Florence walking tour that didn’t cost upfront and you paid based on the value you thought it deserved when finished.

- The DaVinci interactive museum, where the machines of DaVinci were recreated and you could play with. (We weren’t so popular with some of the smaller children). So many things he invented are still the basis of modern machines used today.

- Watching the sunset over Florence from the Piazzale di Michelangelo which we shared with heaps of people, unlike the sunrise Dan saw from there that morning as well. People in Florence are not early risers and enjoy being out late!

- Learning about Dante, Gallileo, the Baptista (1296), the Duomo and its Dome completed in 1436, which at the time was the biggest in the world and is still currently 4th largest in the world.

- The constant smell of truffles and seared steak!

From Florence we headed to Somma Lomabardo where we were greeted with hugs and squeals by Sally and headed off to dinner opposite the old Kings Castle to a restaurant called Castigo.

Matt, a colleague of Sal’s joined us and when we heard another Aussie accent at a nearby table, we invited Chris to join us as well (even though he was from Adelaide!) The food, drink and hospitality from Salvatore was spectacular, he is definitely an enabler and makes the best Limoncello and Grappa!

Not surprisingly the next day had a pretty slow start but that afternoon we went for a short drive along Lake Maggiore and found a great place to swim. The water was so warm and clear. We did not want to leave and, it was a great way to spend our last hours in Europe.

Have you ever wondered how our candidates got ready for Diving Day?

Here’s @sally.j.tindall demonstrating how they prepared to dive and explaining all the gear needed to do so, as well as @astronautsami assisting her with putting the gear on.

And of course, we love the silly exchange between Sally and our CEO and Founder, Dr. Eduardo Diaz.

Being part of AdvancingX means being a part of a family. We’d love for you to join us!
