Everyone seems to be up and about and working feverishly in the studio getting ready for Exhibitions and the like.
Brendon Darby is finishing off a couple of commissions and at the same time prepping the blank stretchers we’ve made for him for a show with the lads at the subway - Linton & Kay.
These are the last two of the batch of the 10 or so to be loaded in.
Carolyn Murdoch has collected a watercolour on paper she did to go into an Art Prize Exhibition.
Carolyn is rather chuffed by the way.
She’s lost some weight, had a new haircut, downsized the house and gone into house with a studio she’s madly in love with, got a family of Magpies that come for brekky and she’s clocking up the hours in the studio as well.
Good luck with the work at the show.
And I asked Carolyn to take off her mask to show off the new hair do.
Steph Blake collected some beautiful little portraits and was saying there are more on the way.
People are just digging her portraits of kids.
There is a gentle brush stroke to them which really softens the kids and makes them glow off the canvas without losing their characteristics and features.
Alix Korte gave us a bit to do for an upcoming Exhibition.
She is going in the 2022 Western Australian Society of the Arts Annual Exhibition.
The show will be in late march and held at the Fremantle Italian Club .
The Western Australian Society of the Arts is celebrating 125 years. That’s fantastic.
Last year we cut some small panels for Alix and she was saying she is mad for them.
They are perfect for doing plein air painting and loves working on the smaller scale.
I’m not sure whether she will enter her bigger format works or the small ones also into the WASA Show.
It doesn’t matter, both formats are beautiful.
Big news too
Bub is getting closer to me and I’m able to watch his feathers change.
He got up on the back step for the first time yesterday but moved off when I got too close to him
He also did his first warble yesterday that I’ve witnessed.
It wasn’t great but he gave it a go.

Good day and good people coming in
First cab off the rank was Steph Blake.
She was collecting a little portrait commission.
Someone will be happy when they see the framed portrait.
Steph also dropped off a bottle of Xmas cheer.
Thank you Steph, we really appreciate the thought and the wine.
This afternoon Jo Duffy came in to order some panels and collect a painting.
She also dropped off some socks to Mr Xmas Socks.
I think she may be encouraging him.
She also dropped off a pair of magpie socks to me for which I am very grateful.
Jo also happened to witness all my mates come around for afternoon tea.
About six magpies all just squawking at me to be next in line for a bite to eat.

@sjaneblake .
@joanneduffyartist
Thanks guys.

We haven’t seen her for a while but knew she was working hard in the studio, so it was a pleasure to see Step Blake arrive at our doorstep.
Steph was armed with a couple of portraits she has just completed.
Steph loves painting the portraits on a smaller sized canvas.
I dig it too.
It gives a sense of intimacy and marries with her warmth and feel of the portrait.
We had quite a giggle when she came in.
I was serving one customer and Tim was serving Steph.
She told us about a new thing she really enjoys.
We all just cracked up laughing.
It wasn’t so much what she likes doing, it was how she said it.
I’m laughing now thinking about it.
Seriously, @sjaneblake can paint.
There is a softness and gentleness to her portraiture.
Beautiful portraiture.
Follow her on Instagram and when she is Exhibiting, get along and have a look.

‘Shopping Local’ working again at its finest.
@emmalipscombe_ has been a big fan of Stephanie Blake’s work and I completely understand why.
@sjaneblake has been a big fan of Emma’s work and I completely understand that too.
Steph purchased a work by Emma a while ago and a discussion took place about Steph doing a portrait of her son Sid.
The portrait was painted and Emma brought it in to be framed.
Emma was so thrilled.
It is a great portrait because I’ve seen Sid in here a million times with Emma and it is SO him.
Emma is chasing that wide, rich old dark style look for the frame.
Steph does beautiful, soft portraits.
I am a bit of a fan too of her work.
Emma has a pile of work here at the moment to collect.
She has been working away in the studio doing her coloured collages and paper studies.
I know people love her work because they tell me and whenever we have Em’s work about, people suddenly want to play 20 questions and know all about it.
Both Emma and Steph are lovely people and worth catching when the opportunity arises.
They are both mad about their craft and its application.

Stephanie Blake dropped in some very lovely portraits of kids to be framed by @artpresentations.
We only started dealing with Steph a couple of years ago and have seen some wonderful paintings done by her.
Steph is a Perth based Artist who has a BA with Honours in Fine Art from UWA and was awarded the Dux of Production and Design at The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
She has worked nationally and internationally for companies such as Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre and The Australian Opera Studio. Whilst in London she was Assistant to International Artist and Theatre Designer ES Devlin.
After moving back to Perth to raise her own family she renewed her relationship with paint and brush, and fell in love with painting all over again.
Stephanie has been painting children for the last three years and continues to be inspired and excited by her subjects. She wants to mark out a space that is separate from the fast paced photographic world we live in; to create a beautiful object, an heirloom, a quiet moment in a child’s history and our memories of them.
Her portraits are soft and gentle capturing the innocence of the young.
Steph was involved in Mundaring Open Studios as a guest Artist and Everything and Nothing a Group show at Friday Studios.
As Steph says …. Hopefully first of many...
She is passionate about her work because we always have a good chat about it and I dig that passion.
If you get a chance to see the works by @sjaneblake go and look at the delicate and intimate imagery
Keep smiling Steph!!

My guess is that during this mayhem you’ll be looking at your four walls quite a lot. I know someone who can assist you - Peter at @artpresentations will frame up the bits that you’ve been meaning to hang forever. Peter is the best framer in town and No. 1 supporter of WA artists. Let’s support our local businesses... like Peter.
My house features loads of his handiwork, here’s two for example 🖼
