Darwin Sandoval, DPT ’26, saw firsthand how language barriers can impact care. Instead of accepting it, he chose to change it.

Sandoval returned to school at 24 with a purpose: to better serve families like his own. At @saintjosephs, he found mentors, community and the support to thrive as a first-generation student — graduating with the Margie Roos PT Faculty Award and a clear vision for his future in physical therapy. ❤️🩺

“I have young nieces and nephews and I want to be able to inspire them, but even outside of that, I want to be a source of inspiration to my community,” Sandoval says. “I noticed a lot of my classmates from home and even people younger than me weren’t pursuing higher education because we didn’t have that type of guidance or support to push us in that direction, and I want to be that for people. The response from the community has been really heartwarming.”

The results are in...@udpt took home the 2025 VCU-Marquette Challenge Cup!
This year, students from more than 70 PT/PTA schools raised almost $200,000 for the Foundation. Thank you all for your hard work and creativity—we look forward to what the 2026 Delaware-Marquette Challenge brings!

“Once we can show someone that there is a more efficient, less painful, and safer way to move, it becomes much easier to progress and get them feeling better,” says Billy Scott, BS ‘25, DPT ‘27, a second year professional student in the @sjudpt program, currently on his first clinical rotation as a student physical therapist at @totalperformancept.training

Billy’s tip for the next physical therapist:
“Be open to learning skills and concepts that you did not learn in your coursework! There is always more to learn in this profession, and you can learn from just about anyone, and you can learn something when you least expect it. Be okay with making mistakes and learning something new.”
