It’s #WorldIceSkatingDay and how apropos! We just put the exclamation point on an eventful year with our 2024 holiday show. So proud of my team and everything we accomplished this year despite sometimes challenging circumstances at three different facilities. It’s hard traveling for work regularly and leaving them to fend for themselves, but when I see how far they’ve come and how much they’ve grown, I know that each of us are where we’re meant to be. Here’s to our wins and learning experiences from 2024 and to those that are yet to come! ⛸️✨👏🏼

⛸️🖍️Postcards From Camp 🎬🩹

The first camp I ever worked was in 2016. That year, we identified an outstanding camper and gave her a special award. That camper was @emilyquinn_d, who now works for me and is going to college in the fall. Having her as a camp counselor this year was a special, full-circle experience, and it reminded me how lucky we are as coaches and program administrators to be in the position to guide and mentor the #NextGeneration…and watch them flourish.

We broke last year’s record with 120 kids in #FigureSkating 101 Camp, and I will not pass up an opportunity to brag about my staff. This week I managed 15 of the best and brightest teens and young adults I know. Their heart, work ethic, #teamwork and commitment never cease to amaze me. Being able to entertain, #teach, console, discipline, and keep track of throngs of kids between the ages of 4-14 is not for the faint-of-heart nor the thin-skinned. It is nothing less than a #LaborOfLove, especially for those doing it voluntarily. The proof is in the blistered, bloodied, bandaged hands that, at the moment, probably feel more like pudding.

I love the buy-in from my team. They are so passionate about what they do that at the end of the long week they put the time in to learn an optional creative program just to perform it for their campers (stick tap to @nicole_.mathews!), and they commit to learning it in just a few hours with almost no ice time! How? I couldn’t tell you. But if anyone is looking for #hope in future generations, I have it.

Speaking of, one of my favorite #moments from the week came when I ran into one of the campers in the restroom. She finished washing her hands and went to hold the door open. I asked her if she was waiting for someone, she told me “no,” and then paused. “I’m waiting for you,” she says. This little girl is four years old. FOUR. 🥹

This #camp was more challenging than any we’ve done the last few years, but we pulled it off. The notes, photos and other kind gestures my team received from their campers is proof that we gave 120 kids a week of #experiences, #friendships and #memories they will never forget.

Then again, Memory Lane is a two-way street. ❤️

WHAT A WEEK! If I ever hear that Peaches song again my head will explode.

But after watching my kids grow with their campers this week - on the ice, off the ice, as skaters, as people, and as role models - I am incredibly humbled and grateful to be in the position to create this amazing experience for so many. We beat every record this year, including 110 skaters and 19 staffers - and overcame every challenge with grace under fire.

Representatives from @learntoskateusa came to marvel at our Figure Skating 101 Camp and will use this as a blueprint for camps across the country. I am just beginning to comprehend the enormity of that. I am so proud of my team and everything we accomplished with our #SuperMario-themed camp…that I MIGHT come back and do it again next year. 😉

We have no fun at work. 😛😉😆 I am so proud of my kids for pulling off the best Figure Skating 101 Camp ever, on top of a somewhat-last-minute @learntoskateusa event…and creating an incredible Minions-themed program on 24-hours notice and zero sleep. I know my kids are the top 10% and last week they reminded me why. The future is bright and I am so grateful to play a small part on these kids’ journeys. #ProudMama ⛸
