I picked up my first camera at 10, the product of supportive parents and an arts program at my public elementary school. 25 years later, and with so much love and support from friends, family and mentors, I took home my first Emmy this past weekend.

I learned a long time ago that you don’t sustain in this work by chasing awards and recognition. You have to fall in love with the process, the late nights, the financial and creative uncertainties, the constant questioning if you belong, and the thousands of rejections.

I feel totally humbled and beyond grateful for the recognition from @nataspsw. But what made the evening so special, and what gives the statue its meaning, are the people I got to share it with. My loved ones who were there in the room and in spirit, my friends from @riseup_industries for whom I have so much respect, my incredible clients and collaborators from @danesoderberg and associates, all of the incredibly talented cast & crew I’m privileged to get to work, and the broader creative community who showed up with so much grace and support.

This Emmy was in the category of directing, but it is shared with all of the cast and crew who made our short film for Dane and his team come to life, including:

Exec Prod: Dane Soderberg (@danesoderberg)
Producer: Claire Kinder (@clairekinder_re)
Producer: Jerry Sachs (@jerrysachs)
DP: Peter Steusloff (@pedrosteus)
1st AC: Eduardo Gonzalez (@edofilms_)
2nd AC: Kristen Steusloff
Gaffer: Jeremy Guico (@unmotivatedlighting)
Key Grip: Ron Mendez (@ron_mendez93)
Associate Producer: Andrii Dudko (@andrew.dudko)
Still photo & 8mm film: Andres Lopez (@developedbydre)
BTS video: Josh Chambers (@chmbrsjosh)
Key Makeup and Hair: Amy McNally

And our incredible cast from @shamonfreitas, Kali Kirk and Ben Reed.

A huge thank you to the whole team at Dane Soderberg and Associates for the opportunity to craft this film. And the courage to take some creative risk.

And an equally huge thank you to the team at @riseup_industries for their trust in allowing me and @synchronous.tv to craft their short film about the heroic work they do day in and day out around prison reentry and second chances.

Onwards!
