Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by @skeletonkate who is bringing joy to Ottawa with @foolsottawa. There’s something special about outdoor theatre, the sun going down, fresh summer air, so many people, breathing with beautiful old trees. 🌳 🎭

The best part of the Athenian woods is definitely the people in it. 💗🌳🧚🏽‍♀️

Skeleton Key Theatre is so excited to be producing Swan River with the Ottawa School of Theatre @ost.eto Swan River runs on Petrie Island from June 11th to June 14th.

Swan River was created by @skeletonkate and premiered at the Ottawa Children’s Festival in 2018. Skeleton Key is thrilled to share this production with Ottawa School of Theatre, directed by our current Artistic Director @caitysmyck

“Swan River is an outdoor story that invites audiences down a trail to help siblings Pen, Lil, and Cob unravel the mystery of their town, Swan River. A contemporary adaptation of the legend of the Swan Maiden, Swan River was created to be presented outdoors near a body of water to highlight the tension that exists between the familiar and the unfamiliar; what humans impose on the environment; and the natural world that they often feel disconnected from. By walking into the world of the play, Swan River actively connects families to nature, reflecting the family’s journey within the piece. A story about identity, adaptability, and family, Swan River celebrates the extraordinary power that we all have to love one another unconditionally.

Swan River features a cast of 36 actors from the Ottawa School of Theatre, ranging in age from 7 to 56. Our All Ages Plays bring multiple generations together to learn and play as equals as they work towards production.”

Amazing to be there for the Ottawa Mayoral proclamation and the sign unavailing at Strathcona Park on April 1st honouring @foolsottawa !

Current AD @skeletonkate invited co founders @joplingheather and @margo_thespian to be there for the ceremony.

In 1990x a teenager I was invited to join the first season with a bunch of soon to be friends and we performed Shakespeare on the streets for change!

@birgittesolem joined the next year, it was a foundational experience.

It has carried on for 35 years as hundreds more became involved and now they bring Shakespeare to parks around the region, Pay What You Can, accessible, theatrical Shakespeare!

Friends, an amazing thing happened today. The @cityofottawa unveiled a new street sign at the corner of Range Rd. & Laurier Ave. named for A Company of Fools — the madcap Shakespeare theatre company I co-founded with @joplingheather in 1990, which is still going strong 35 years later with the help of current Artistic Director @skeletonkate and all the many hundreds of Fools who were part of it in between. (Most notably Scott Florence who kept the company inspired and afloat for over half of that time.)

My heart is overwhelmed with joy and pride that something I helped create has become such a beloved part of Ottawa culture that they wanted to erect a permanent sign of their affection. Thank you!

My love and thanks to all those who played with, created with, supported, watched, loved, and inspired the Fools. Here’s to many more years of Fools and foolish fun to come!

🥳🎈🎉

Some of these will come out evil don’t worry my phone just does that. Alas the time has come for the post-production post. Working with these people for the past six weeks has been such an extraordinary pleasure. These are some of the kindest people that I’ve ever met and such a fun group to work with on and off the stage. I feel so lucky to have the privilege of getting to know you all better. The talent from this group is incredible, every single actor was outstanding and so incredibly talented. I’m feeling a little sad now that the show is over, but that’s how I know that it was something really good. I will surely see ya silly guys again, and I can’t wait to work with y’all again in the future
