We are honoured to be the recipient of the 2026 Spirit of Saskatoon SABEX Award.

This award celebrates something we have always believed: Meewasin is one of Saskatoon's greatest treasures. Along with the wonderful people who call this city home, the Meewasin Valley is an icon that distinguishes Saskatoon from anywhere else on earth. It connects us to one another, brings us together, and deepens our connection to the land.

This recognition belongs to the incredible team behind Meewasin. Their talent, passion, and dedication are the magic behind everything we do. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our volunteers, donors, sponsors, partners, and founding partners, the City of Saskatoon, Government of Saskatchewan, and University of Saskatchewan, whose support helps make our work possible.

Thank you to the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and Discover Saskatoon for sponsoring the Spirit of Saskatoon Award category, and congratulations to all of the nominees. It was an honour to be recognized alongside such outstanding organizations.

The SABEX Awards celebrate businesses, and while Meewasin is a non-profit, we are proud to be in the business of making the best part of Saskatoon better.

Thank you, Saskatoon, for your support

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Hon. Sean Wilson, provincial Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement, to the Hall of Fame today. It was great to welcome the Minister for a tour and a behind-the-scenes look at our collection, our exhibits, and our building. The MLA for Canora-Pelly was quick to spot Cliff Koroll, a former NHL player from Canora, as well as the incomparable Sylvia Fedoruk – a pair of inductees from his part of the province.

It is always a pleasure to welcome the Honourable Alana Ross, the Provincial Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport, to the Hall of Fame. Minister Ross has always been engaged with the Hall of Fame’s mandate and efforts to preserve, celebrate and share Saskatchewan’s great sport history. We enjoyed showing Minister Ross some of our newest exhibits and initiatives, as we continue to celebrate our 60th anniversary with several exciting events coming this summer and beyond.

A new door just opened. 💜

Today, we celebrated the grand opening of YWCA Regina’s Semi-Independent Youth Housing Program, a milestone for youth and our community all thanks to an idea brought forward by the @johnhowardsask Youth Advisory Team and a significant investment from the Ministry of Social Services @skgov .

This new site includes 10 semi-independent living units with 22 bedrooms, offering a stable, consistent home where young people can practice living on their own while building confidence, skills, and independence.

YWCA Regina’s Semi-Independent Youth Housing Program supports men, women, and gender-diverse youth ages 16–21, including any children they have or are expecting, who are transitioning out of government care and ready for greater independence, with 24/7 mentorship and support. Youth are referred through the Ministry of Social Services and supported as they plan for the future.

“This is the perfect setting for youth and families alike to explore adulthood fearlessly.” — Amy-Louise, Youth Advisory Team

Today, members of our Canine Unit teamed up with colleagues from Provincial Conservation and the RCMP to spread a little extra holiday cheer throughout the pediatric unit.

While some children were in isolation, the joy still found its way through windows and doorways. To add to the fun, canine plushies were handed out, giving kids a cuddly reminder of their four-legged visitors.

As they do every year, our officers left with full hearts, grateful for the chance to share kindness, connection, and a few tail wags during the holiday season.

Last week, PSD Bam and his buddies, Ares and Maverick, made a special visit to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital to spread some festive paw-sivity to the children, families, and staff throughout the holiday season.

Along with canine handlers from the Saskatoon and Prince Albert Police Services and Conservation and Correctional Services, the dogs made their rounds one room at a time delivering gifts with a waggy tail in tow.

Thanks to the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation for the invitation; it’s one we always look forward to!
